frustrated from post-op appt.
I had my first post-op appt. today with my surgeon and am feeling very frustrated.
I had a TVH for suspected adeno because of a scope where she said the uterus looked large and boggy. After my surgery she just came in and said that it was a very difficult surgery because my uterus was very enlarged and that I lost a lot of blood. The surgeon left for a holiday right after my surgery so I never seen her again till today.
Today she was in and out of the examining room in about 5 minutes and that included an internal! She just blurted out that the pathology report found endo on the cervix and adeno of the uterus. She said that she found a cyst on my right ovary that she took fluid from but that it was fine.
I had questions I wanted to ask and felt so rushed, like I was interupting her day. She never even mentioned any restrictions or when to resume relations with my husband. I stopped her on the way out and asked and she just said to go ahead whenever my discharge is gone.
I know I should be more outspoken and get my questions answered but I have a panic/anxiety disorder that makes it very difficult just to get to an appt. and when it goes like this one it just makes everything worse.
Sorry for the rant but I am just sitting here wondering why I even bothered going to the appt. because I don't know much more then before. I get so frustrated.

Oh jules, I would also be very frustrated and mad. Do you get to see her again? If so, try going in with a list and start off by saying you have a number of things you wish to discuss...

Wow how frustrating for you. If you don't have another appt. I would call the office with your questions and concerns. Either have the nurse get them answered for you, or tell the nurse that you were rushed through your appt. and want to talk to the DR unless the nurse will answer them for you. Good luck to you and best wishes.

I understand the panicand anxiety...I am so sorry aboutthis whoel experience. The list thing is what i do. I come with a type writen note including questions and even things I feel are hard to say and I want to say. Such as "i feel it is important that such and such be considered" or "such and such is very important to me". I have had to call nurses and DRs back when they are short or too quick wiht me or I cry and things get cut short. YOu may need to call back I think. I wish you well.

What a rude doctor! I would call back and ask to speak with her nurse. Tell the nurse you were rushed out of there and none of your questions got answered. Then tell her your questions and ask her to answer them or to get a response from the doctor. I'd let the nurse know you were very unhappy with your appointment. Sometimes that is enough to get the doctor to be more considerate. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Heh, I think my poor Dr's nurse knows more about me than my dr does. I swear I call her every other day. I have asked her everything from "is this normal" to "I can't take this anymore" to "i need drugs!" I know I have been in to see my dr with a list before and I either forget to ask or the appt gets rushed or sometimes he's offf delivering a baby, and I don't get everything answered. I just know that the nurse will answer EVERYTHING i throw at her. And if there is a nurse practitioner there, sometimes they are less busy and can spend more time with you. But me personally, I don't like paying an extra co-payment just to get my questions answered....so I call the nurse!

I am so sorry... That just stinks.... I would call a nurse as well... I would wait at least 6 weeks till you and your husband resume intercourse, but even then without a vaginal exam i would be scared... You need to be pro active with your health... You do not want to end up with an infection....

Thanks so much for all the responses, I am so glad I found this site! It helps to know that people hear what I am feeling right now.
I went for a walk outside in the sun and have calmed down somewhat. I asked the surgeon if I should come back again and she said not unless I have complications. I think I will wait till I feel a bit better and try to call the nurse to get answers. If she can't help me I might just go to my family doctor and see if he can help. They are part of the same clinic so maybe he has access to my records.
I am mad at myself for not writing a list before I went because I normally do but thought this time I would remember everything and just assumed she would take the time to go through things with me.
I guess in the end everything will be alright its just hard to wait almost four weeks for info and then not feel like i know anymore then when I went to the appt.. Ha, I guess I have even more questions because I never knew I had endo on the cervix so I will have to read some more.
Again I thank everyone for the support, it was really needed today.

Is your surgeon different from your ob/gyn? If so, make an appt w/ your ob/gyn and bring your list of questions/concerns to him/her. If it is the same, have your list ready and call her nurse.
Hang in there and stick to your guns

I agree with bauebee. If your surgeon is not the same as your GYN, make an appointment with your GYN if you like him or her. All GYNs are surgeons and have the same general expertise. If the surgeon is your GYN, you might want to change your GYN to someone who will give you more attention and consideration. In any case, get copies of everything about you in your surgeon's file including: 1. The surgical report, 2. the surgeon's office visits notes about you and 3. All pathology and blood reports. You are legally entitled to a copy of your all your medical records. The surgeon's office might charge you a small fee for the copies. Show this information to whatever GYN you decide to use and go from there.
