New member with questions about cervix removal and possible vaginal shortening

Hi, I am scheduled for a TVH on the 1st June 06 with a possibility of a TAH depending on how much scaring i have from the casearians ive had over the last few years. My concern is which one is better. i have been researching and I have found some readings where it says that if your cervix is removed it can affect your sex life, but the biggest thing ive found is that by having a vaginal hysterectomy because they cut and resew, they are making your vaginal wall smaller, therefore on penetration you can have painful sex. has anyone experienced this before?
any imput would be greatly appreciated

Hello!

I had my cervix removed with LAVH and have had no "shortening" effect at all. My DH says everything feels the same to him. (Believe me I was relieved!) Some women do find their sex lives changed and not always for the better. Don't discount their stories but know that most women have good experiences and are glad they've had the surgery. My own experience is a positive one - if nothing else the lack of pain is a wonderful thing!! Lubrication, arousal and orgasm are still there and still working fine!!

Good luck to you! I hope all turns out well!

Hi Donna, Welcome to Hystersisters

This is my experience but you should still visit the Pre-Op Articles that Bizet Woman mentioned.

I had a TVH on 3.28.06 with uterus & cervix removed, I do still have my ovaries. Anyway I had my 7th week post-op appt with Dr 2 days ago. I was very nervous about having intercourse w/DH so we talked about those concerns. The conversation made me so much more at ease about doing the deed. Dr told me that the cuff of the vaginal wall may have shortened a quarter of an inch but that there was nothing to worry about. It is made to stretch: for tampons, or even the biggest penis (a little bit hesitant, but his words exactly) and even big enough for child-bearing. He said to take it gently and slow the first couple of times and to use lubrication if needed. TMI - My DH is well endowed and this has made my life over the past couple of yrs very painful. We had intercourse 2 days ago after my visit w/the Dr. Everything was good for both of us. He said that it was better than before. We didn't use the lubrication (wished we had though). The reason I say that is because afterwards I felt kind of warm (not really burning) down there and also very dry. I could definately tell that she had had a visitor that day. Glad to say everything felt normal the next morning.

I don't regret having my TVH at all. I feel very good about having this done. I hope this has eased your mind some.

I'm not trying to encourage you to have this specific surgery done, just letting you know my experience. Please go ahead and read the articles, because you do have to make that decision on which hyst that is right for you.

Good luck with your future surgery.
