The Internal

What are they looking for when they do the internal. I assume they are looking at the cuff. I don't have to do this for 4 weeks, but I am scared I am going to wind up back at the hospital being operated on again. Would I have symptoms if something was wrong? I don't want to be a reck going to this. I really don't care about pain. What is the worst that he could find?

Slow down there sweetie. The main reason they do an internal is to check the cuff and stiching areas and make sure they are healing correctly. You would know if something wasn't right with your body. Heavy bleeding or severe pain are 2 key signs that something isn't right. Don't get yourself all worked up over something this small. All my dr looked at when I went in for my 6 week was the cuff, checked for any left over stitches, and make sure it was all ok. He then told me to sit up and asked if I had any questions, which I had, lol thanks to the girls here, we finished our conversation and he told me I was released and if I had any more problems to call him! The worse is over, as long as you take proper care of yourself now, this is the easy part. Good luck and try to relax, your 6 week check-up is nothing to worry about.

You're still relatively new out of surgery, so I can understand you're being so concerned. As banchie75 referred to, you can relax. It's just a normal checkup to make sure all is well. You MIGHT still be a bit tender, but no need to worry about that either.

If you have any questions between now and your appt, be sure to write them down. You may think you'll remember it all by the time you get to the office, but if you're anything like the majority, it will all fly out of your head as soon as you walk in that door! Having a list on hand will help considerably and aid you in not freaking out later about, "I should've asked him this... or that..."

Will keep you in our prayers that all goes well on that check up. Honestly, the hardest part is over. Healing may be difficult, but it's only because we women have a tendency to think we have superpowers and do too much too soon! Remember to take it easy and when your doctor does release you for activity, that's not necessarily ok to jump back in with both feet! Over time, you will learn your limits. (Well, ok... some of us never do learn that part! LOL) You only get one chance to heal, so take it!!

Good luck!

I'm am 7 weeks post op now and my tummy still swells and is still tender and feels bruised at times, especially if I do too much, which has been almost every day since I returned to work. You might be over doing it. Slow down a bit and try to space yourself out. If you have different things you want to do in a day, do one thing in the morning, then take it easy, and then another in the afternoon, then take it easy. I also found that when my swelly belly bubbled out there, an ice pack for 30 mins then heat for 30 mins, really helped; the ice reduces swelling and the heat relaxes the muscles. I had kind of a difficult post-op since I couldn't take hardly anything but tylenol for pain, but if you can take ibuprofen, it also helps with swelling and pain. Good luck and just try to relax about things, I found that the more stressed I kept myself over small issues, the worse I felt and more pain there was. So the big thing is keep the stress low and relax and you will feel a lot better. Take care, and keep us posted, or if you have anything more you wanna chat about, we are all here for you!

I was pretty nervous about the 6 week visit also . As with most things during this whole thing, the worrying about things was much worse than the actual doing. The doctor's visit was no big deal, a little tender but over in seconds with the proclamation "you're all healed" . The best advice he gave me was to ease into activities and listen to my own body because that was the best way to gage if I was doing to much. Unfortunately, I don't listen very well and sometimes end up with a sore belly for a couple of days after playing superwoman. Overall, though, I feel great and came through with flying colors. Take it easy and try not to worry too much. Remember that the complications are rare and most women get through with the minimal. This is one of the most common surgeries performed and if we were all laid out because of it, who would manage the world--don't tell the men--ha, ha, they think they do it. Good luck on a rapid uncomplicated recovery.
