Can You Feel The Mesh?

As most of you know this is my second A & P repair in 9 months. I am still having bowel issues and straining even though the stool is soft. Feels like the Uro/Gyn sewed the rectum closed. I'm not sure if I can describe this well enough for you girls to understand. The rectocele was repaired with mesh. I feel like it has been sewn up just past the bottom of the vagina and there is a pocket there. When I wipe after using the bathroom I can feel something that feels like metal. I can't see it so I can't tell if it's just a suture or if it is mesh. Should you be able to feel the mesh in the repair and is that pocket normal?

Michelle,
I sure hope the doctor used absorbable mesh on you. Sorry I can't help you, but am sending hugs.

Can You Feel The Mesh?

I am still having issues with my bowels and I had my repairs 3-14. I do have trouble pushing out the stool even though they are soft. Most of the time, especially in the moring, the beginning of my stools is hard and lumpy like its being stuck somewhere. I did not have mesh, but I felt like I was stitched to tight and the stitches felt like metal, At least that has passsed. it is probably just the healing and it tightening up. I think after these repairs, AT LEAST FOR ME, I thought it would fix everything, but no such luck. Sue

Can You Feel The Mesh?

I have had DH take a look and he says that he sees black at the end of the rectocele repair. He says he's not sure if it's a suture or mesh. I think it has to be the mesh because I am having yellowy/green discharge from the sutures dissolving so I would assume the sutures are light in color. Whatever it is it's poking me and hurting. Sounds exactly like what happened with the last repair when my body started to reject the sutures and spit them out whole! I'm waiting for a call back from the Dr. Will let you know what he says.

Can You Feel The Mesh?

Michelle, I had yellow/green discharge when my stitches were dissolving, but I also definitely had many black stitches. I also had a lot of discomfort - poking, stabbing etc- when they were passing and this feeling that you describe at one time. I felt as if I was carrying a little bag around my back end just like a horse carries to avoid messing all the streets. Didn't someone else describe this recently? Or maybe it was you? If so, sorry if I put in my comment once again...

But obviously, with your history, you need to be seen by your doc. Do post what he says.We are all concerned for you...

Can You Feel The Mesh?

I spoke with the Uro/Gyn today and described what it felt and looked like. She doesn't think it is mesh, she thinks it may be a suture. I have an appointment on Monday morning for them to take a look at it. I also have many questions about this urethra and why it is sticking out so far and becoming irritated but all they keep saying is that it's due to swelling. For some reason they don't believe me when I say that it has been like this for the past 9 months since after the first repair failed and I don't think swelling has anything to do with it. So I called my Gyn who has seen it before, during and after. He thinks it may be prolapsed and the stinging I am feeling at the end of urinating is a classic symptom of urethral prolapse. He offered to have me come in right now to have him look at it but it's already 4:30PM on Friday and I don't want him to have to stay late for me. So he told me to have the Uro/Gyn check it again on Monday and if I'm not satisfied with the answer to just drive over to his office after I'm done there and he will check it for me. Gosh I love that man!!
So as long as I don't sit upright I'll make it through the weekend and have some answers in a few days.

Oh Michelle, it is so good to hear that your doctor is so caring and I do hope you get sorted out soon with the urethra. I still have a stitch at 13 weeks.
