Coughing please help in BAD pain

=Comic Sans MS]SIZE=2]Im in so much pain i have had a bad cough for about 3 days. I cant stand this any more i got about an hour sleep last night and its killing me belly. Im post bop 1 week today and im in more pain because of this. I have used cough drops and liquid nothing works, why did i do this I just left a message for the Dr[/size] Im so upset at the moment

What do you think is causing the cough? Are you sick? Maybe your doc can prescribe a suppressant to stop it if possible. I am sorry you are in such pain. Let us know how you make out.

I'm so sorry you are in pain! Calling your doctor is the very thing to do.
Can you lay on your side and cradle a pillow against your body when you cough? This might help with the pain. Please know I'll be thinking and praying for you. Hope your cough stops and your healing continues! Take care -

I dont think im sick i dont have anything more going on. I did try to cradle a pillow against my body when i cough but it does not help . It will last about 25 to 30 secs each time. Can i hurt anything inside stich wise im so worried, they took the staples about before i left the hospital on Thursday and have the tape over the cut. The cut is about 8 inch across but im just guessing !!

In the hospital, they should have given you a breather to exercise your lungs. They say to use that many times a day so when you do have coughing spells that you may be able to handle it better.
The only things that I can recommend is that you take your pain meds as directed and use your tummy pillow. When you start to cough have that bad boy right up against you as tight as you possibly can. It's going to hurt till you get use to it, but I dont think that you can hurt anything in the insides from coughing.
Something that helped me was drawing my legs in towards my chest when I coughed. Good luck to you and I hope that U get the rest that you need.

A cough can cause damage and most certainly hurts you, so it is best to ask your doctor to see if you can have a cough suppressant.

Well the nurse called me the dr is going to call in some meds for me. They were going to call in codine for me but i cant take that as it makes me pass out. So she has to talk to the Dr again !!!

I too had a horrid cough from a bad sinus infection post op. Thot I was going to rip my internal stitches!! My Dr prescribed a strong cough pill and an antibiotic (Z-pac) and I was much better the next day. I took Advil while coughing and it helped the pain. She told me its pretty hard to cough things loose and thank god shes right.

Ask for some Tessalon perles. They are by far the best following codeine for suppressing cough. If your not congested or having post-nasal drip, you may have some nerve aggravation from the breathing tube used during surgery. If you don't get better soon, I'd ask for a referral to an ear, nose and throat specialist. Hope your feeling better soon.
