Can cervix be left with LAVH?

I'm scheduled to have LVAH including both ovaries. Is there a reason the cervix can't be kept w/ LVAH? is the main reason to remove it to avoid cervical cancer? Does Cervical stenosis impact whether or not it should go? We started to discuss it at my pre-op but got off track. All I got from her was, "Its going." I already called and left a message. I'm waiting for her to call back. Thank you.

Can cervix be left with LAVH?

A LAVH is a lap assisted vaginal hyst, so your cervix is removed as the cervix and uterus are delivered vaginally. There is a hyst called the LSH, which is a laparoscopic supercervical hyst, meaning all the work is done via lap, your uterus is cut up and removed via a lap tube, and your cervix is left in tact. However, not all drs are able to preform this type of hyst, nor are all medical facilities equipped for this type of hyst. Additionally, your cervix is not actually a seperate organ, it is the bottom portion of the uterus. So there is not specific line saying where to seperate the bottom half of your uterus from the top, thus depending on why you are having a hyst, some drs do not want to inadvertently leave any part of the upper portion of the uterus behind as this can cause additional problems in the future.

And if you keep your ovaries and your cervix, you can experience mini periods each month.

My cervix was removed due to abnormal paps, having endo which can implant on the cervix, and the fact that the LAVH was the least invasive hyst type available to me as I also needed an appendectomy.

Talk to your dr. She is the best one to answer your questions. You can also seek a second opinion. Best wishes to you.

Can cervix be left with LAVH?

Weiser, thank you for the veryeclear explanation. I had an a-ha moment while reading it. My uterus has mystery fluid in it. If I understand you correctly, cutting my uterus up to get it out through a lap tube wouldn't be a good plan. Thanks again. It is so helpful to be ablt to talk things through so I make more sense and better use of mytime when I talk to my doctor.

As stated earlier, the cervix will be removed when having a LAVH. The following article may be helpful in explaining reasons the cervix might be kept or removed as well as mini-periods that may occur when keeping the cervix and ovaries.
