PO Path report, confused??

Ok, I went for my post-op today and got a copy of my pathology report. I have found what a few of these are but not all. I would have went over it with my Dr BUT I didn't get the report until I was leaving and they told me that he already left for lunch. Here is what it is saying.

-Uterine prolapse grade 1 with cystocele grade 1 and a rectocele grade 1. Uterine tissue suggests adenomyosis The endometrium shows extensive Necrosis, Fibrosclerosis and patchy minimal chronic inflammation, Most consistent with procedural artefact. The residual viable endometrium is in proliferative phase. The cervix shows Focal Squamous Metaplasia (HPV is also mentioned)-

Gross Description-
Uterus is a pink slightly hyperemic uterus weighing 82 grams and measuring 8.5 x 4.7 x 4.5cm The endometrium is 0.5 cm in thickness and shows foci of necrosis. -

There was other measurements on there too. I just put the description of what I dont understand . If anyone can explain this a little to me, I would be so thankful.

Hi Kim! First off, I think I would make another appointment, probably just with your GP, to get it properly explained to you. That way you'll have the right answers. I can only tell you just a little bit. Necrosis means dead tissue which I think is from you ablation, as they try to "kill off" the endometrium so it won't bleed. In fact, that's pretty much what that whole sentence means. "Residual viable endometrium" is the part that the ablation didn't get and is still functioning. "proliferative phase" means its building up like it normally would in your cycle. As for what it said about the cervix, I don't know. The cystocele, rectocele thing means that the bladder (cysto) and rectum were trying to make tunnels toward the vagina and you would've soon had problems, if you didn't already.
Hope it helps some, but, really, make an appt. and get it properly and fully explained. The unknown is scary-our imaginations run away with us.

Thanks for the reply. As a matter of fact, I did call and made an appointment with my GP for next week. I think my biggest concern right now is where the report says

-The Cervix shows Focal Squamous Metaplasia-

and it mentions HPV (which I know has something to do with cervical cancer). I know that my cervix WAS CIN1. I am just worried, maybe over nothing?? Everything that I have found online about this is NOT good news (maybe just worry again???). Thanks again for your quick reply.

Be aware of too much on-line information it is not always accurate. I work in the pathology dept. at a hospital. Just speak with your Dr. about what your report means to you and your future. If I leave my self to my own devices of researching a problem, I always make it worse by worrying to death!. Good Luck and let us know what your Dr. says.

I think I may know where your worries lie, but I'm not a Dr, this is just my understanding of HPV.

HPV has been on TV a lot and it can be an indication of cervical cancer. However, HPV is a very common virus that a majority of women get but your immune system fights off. When it doesn't go away, certain high risk types of the virus can lead to cell changes that develop into something worse. This is why you can't just get an HPV test and why it is always done WITH a PAP smear.

I had HPV years ago...the doctor said it was veneral warts. I had to get put under general anesthesia to have them removed. I couldn't see them, but he said they were inside. HPV, from my understanding, left untreated can lead to cancer. Hope this helps. Tracy
