embarassing question

I can't believe I'm even asking this question -- but they say the only stupid question is one that's unasked, so...
I'm have an abdominal hysterectomy in two weeks (uterus and ovaries -- not sure about cervix yet) and I started trying to imagine what sex might be like later.
I've heard that hysterectomies often cause lubrication problems, but I was under the impression that that was only temporary.
Then it hit me... if you're taking everything out, maybe you're taking whatever it is that causes lubrication to begin with. I mean, I'm not sure how that happens -- is it a function of the ovaries, cervix, what?
Do women who have TAH's lose all ability to... um... well, let's put it another way... do they have to buy stock in KY forever????
How's that for a silly question?
Thanks
Laura

embarassing question

Not a silly question at all! In fact, it was one I was worried about too!

I had a TAH last August, with the cervix removed. I kept my ovaries. In my case at least, I have absolutely no problem at all with lubrication. I have heard some women have difficulties, and have to use some products for assistance, but I don't notice any difference at all.

Good luck!

I'm so glad you ask that question! I went for my post op visit today and forgot to ask that question. It's been 6 weeks since my surgery. I look forward to hearing your answers! Thanks...

embarassing question

I noticed that I have MORE natural lubrication now. I had LAVH and cervix is gone. I have my ovaries. Not sure what creates the lube, but mine is better!!

embarassing question

Wow -- so many responses. Thank you everyone.
Most of you, it sounds like, have had your cervix removed but kept the ovaries... I'm doing the opposite. So I guess I'm wondering if the librication comes from the ovaries -- which is why the women who responded here have said there's been no problem. (I'm very happy for you all, by the way.
What about women who have had the reverse... who lost the ovaries and kept the cervix? Anyone like that out there who would like to respond?
Hugs to all,
Laura

embarassing question

Laura,

Why don't you try posting your question on the Hormone Jungle board? Women there are dealing with hormone replacement, so you'll hear from a lot more women who lost their ovaries.

Good luck with your surgery!

As you can see there's never an question here.

I had a TAH/BSO.... NO OVARIES HERE.... and I have to admit whatever the lube machine is..... seems to be working better then before.

Best of luck and keep the questions coming!
