help...can't control

I had a TAH in Jan. I am very well now. My problem is weight..I want to eat all the time, espically at night watching tv. I know that is the worst time to eat, and I stay hungery all the time. This is the most I have ever weighed. I am small framed and 5'2". I have gained 10 pounds since my surgery. Has anyone had this problem? I am on vivlle dot patch .75mg. Is there any light at the end of this road.

I gained 20lbs since my surgery, and I did it in 5 weeks.
The gaining stopped when I was put on bio-identical hormones. It seems that e1 estrogen is the one that causes the problem. I am taking e2 & e3. Talk to your doctor about the weight gain. My doctor sent me to a compounding pharmacist who specializes in HRT. She told me that the synthetic hormones give you e1 which you don't really need, and that it can cause weight gain among other things. Good luck to you.

Weight gain is disturbing to us, especially when our predictable bodies start changing the rules, postop.

It is good to listen to your body, for it is trying to tell you something........perhaps it wants additional nutrition for healing (Some healing can go on for a full year, for many, inside.).........or, your hormones may need some fine-tuning. I know I used to get powerfully hungry about 8 or 9 days before my periods, when the hormone levels were going through their changes. Since my surgery, my body has also seemed to have stuck in that mode.....EEGAds!! Am still trying to sort things out, with the help of an endocrinologist.

Besides doing your best to eat a sensible and healthy diet, plus getting some regular exercise, it might not hurt to have your hormone levels tested.

Good luck, and take care.........s....Deb

My weight gain a couple of years ago had nothing to do with surgery, but I was just like you... always hungry, and from the time I got home at night it seemed like all I did was eat and forage for food! What worked for me was a high protein/low carb diet. After eating that way for a couple of days, the cycle was broken for me. I was no longer hungry all the time, and I remember commenting to friends at work that I felt like I had all this extra time! (Time I had formerly spent eating and looking for food to eat!)

If you can break that cycle and start eating healthy whole foods - not the processed stuff that comes in boxes and is full of chemicals--and add a bit of exercise to your routine you will lose weight!** It's simple -- but not easy! It takes some planning and determination for the first two or three days, until you break the craving cycle!

I did this the month before my surgery and lost about 8 lbs. I have been pretty careful during my recovery to not pig out too much -- I'm trying to eat fairly healthy since my activity is so restricted. But for right now I am enjoying a brownie!

**Edited to add... If you don't lose weight then definitely call your doctor and ask about hormonal imbalances and thyroid problems!!! It shouldn't take long to know if this is working for you -- you should have weight loss within the first couple of weeks! Wishing you good luck and good health!
