Lump in a vein?
Ok ladies, what is it? I noticed some bruising on my arm earlier, like a yellowish mark. There was a lump, i didn't bother with it, figured I just bumped it somehow. Well curiosity got to me and I touched it to see if it was sore, nope. And then I noticed the lump will move around...that's when I realised it's a vein! Now I'm all freaked out thinking it's a blood clot. The lump is about 2 inches from my wrist, on the same arm I had the IV in. But that was 3 weeks ago! Could a problem still come up?
The reason I'm so weirded out is because years ago, in an attempt to scare me into quitting smoking, a doc told me how a blood clot in a girls leg broke up and traveled to her brain, killing her.
Please help me ease my incredibly paranoid mind before I go to bed!!

Do get it checked out. I had soreness and bruising where the IV went for ages but best to be sure.

Lump in a vein?
I'll call the doc in the morning to find out what she wants me to do. It isn't a big lump, but it;s there. I don't have any numbness or tingling in my fingers, so blood is still circulating. It's about 3 inches from where the IV was. I keep looking at it and it reminds me of when they'd put something in my IV and it would take a moment for it all to start moving through the vein...
My mom should be up in just over a few hours (it's after 2 am now) and she can take me to the docs if needed. In the meantime, does anyone know what a clot looks like from the outside? IF I could rule that out I might get some sleep myself!!

Lump in a vein?
This is not medical advice, at all.
I had a lump on the inside crook of my elbow, where an iv had been placed at some point.
The lump was sore, my arm was tender, and I spoke with my doctor about it.
He said it was more than likely from an iv insertion at some point, it was a blood clot, but not the kind that can kill you.
He advised me to continue taking an aspirin a day, and it should dissolve it.
It did, but yes, you do need to speak with your own doctor about it to be certain it's not something major.

Lump in a vein?
Vega,
I have the same thing. A lump in the vein about 2" from where my IV was. Doc said it will go away, not to worry.
It's just stress and trauma to the vein from the IV.
But do call your doc to be sure.

Lump in a vein?
Hey ladies, well I waited until this morning to call someone. At 2 am last night my mom was already in bed. It's hard to wake her when you''re standing in front of her...waking her from the 1st floor with a fan and the tv on would've been able impossible!
So first thing this morning we called her friend who is a nurse of 22+ years. Fortunately the lump has gone down and the coloring isn't as bad as it was last night. I told her what was going on, she said that since it's going away not to worry, but keep an eye on it. If it starts to swell up or get discolored again to call my doc ASAP. She said I may have bumped it, bruised the vein, causing a slight blood clot.

Lump in a vein?
I had one of these lumps a few inches up from my IV. It was like a tube actually, and slipped back and forth. I was convinced they had lost part of the needle in there!! No, just inflammation from the IV, and it took several weeks to go down. Probably what you have, or at least let's hope!

Too Funny -- I Have One Also!!
Hi Vega! I had my TAH/BSO w/cervix removed the day after you did. Last night (after everyone else was in bed) near my watch band...about 1 to 1-1/2 inch from where my IV was -- it's hard, kinda like a straw/knot, and felt kinda bruised. I showed a neighbor today that came over to visit. I was just at my Dr on Thurs, and I don't think it was there then! I'm praying it's normal, as the IV was in for over 2 1/2 days. First thing that came to my mind was "blood clot"...probably just recovering from the IV...I hope

Lump in a vein?
Well at least now I don't feel so alone! I was really worried last night. But I've been keeping an eye on it today and it's getting a bit better. I'm wondering if it's just delayed reaction to the IV. I never considered the length of time I had it in! (from Mon am to Thurs pm)
