rectocele and cystocele

Anyone here had rectocele and cystocele repair? I had my bladder sling almost one year after my hyst, now I have to have cystocele and rectocele repair. How bad is this surgery? I hear it's worse than the hyst itself?

rectocele and cystocele

I had the rectocele repair with my TVH and it was the most painful thing, while my TVH was not at all. I could not sit without having a pillow to sit on for about 6 weeks. I sort of lounged on the sofa, and driving was uncomfortable as well.

I am glad I had it done though , it has been nice to be done with it and everything working good.

Maybe someone will come along to share their experience with the other procedure.

rectocele and cystocele

I had a LATVH with a cystocele (TVT sling), a rectocele and a perineum repair on 4-25-06. The sling and recurring bladder infections have been the hardest to get used to. I can still feel the sling - 6 weeks post op, especially if I spend too much time on my feet. I am still leaking urine and am still having a slow trickle most of the time when I go. Here is what has helped though. I drink cranberry juice to keep things healthy. I was drinking far too much liquids after the surgery (I am a big water drinker) and my doctor advised me to cut way down on the fluids so I wouldn't work my bladder so hard. Less liquid = less pee.And on this website, I found a suggestion that also helped. Sit on the toilet facing the tank. Boosts your body into a position that makes it easier for your bladder to empty.
The rectocele was not a problem for me post surgery. The biggest thing to watch is constipation. Don't want to undo the surgery. Stool softeners are a must and I took 2 colace with every dose of meds. I also found that a combination of prune juice and cranberry juice (4 oz each) mixed together helped keep things moving along. A nurse at the hospital gave me that advice. And time. I have more trouble with the old hemmoroids that I had pre surgery than the actual repair. I think that because I had so much done is a lot of the reason I am so slow to recover.
Would I do those repairs again? The rectocele for certain and I think in time, when things have settled down I can say that I would have the cystocele repaired too. I wish you the best of luck with both and holler if I can be of anymore help ok?

rectocele and cystocele

Hiya- I am assuming you are talking about the anterior & poterior repairs due to the cysto & rectoceles - I did have both w/my TVH & am still in recovery- Its painful I won't lie there & you have to be VERY careful as to not pop stitches by straining w/especially bowel movements & it is a lil different when urinating(still haven't had my post op & unsure if I got the bladder sling-but with all the differences I am guess I did) but really with knowing what life was like b4 the surgery & now- already am more comfortable. & am getting better every day. I don't know what the hyst all by itself is like to compare one to the other on surgeries - but I already do NOT regret it. Just a word to the wise do EVERYTHING in your power to keep from fighting constipation. You can't strain with these repairs w/o risking undoing all the repairs- GOOD LUCK & let us know how it goes

rectocele and cystocele

HI Station817
I had my cystocele, rectocele and vaginal vault repairs along with my SAH, and they didn't bother me half as badly as the incision in my abdomen.
There are quite a few of us "sisters" who have had this repair work done, and we had quite a big post going about 10 days ago - you might want to try a search under "rectocele and cystocele repair" (or the other way around) - hope you can find it, as it had LOTS of info.
It did take a long time to heal though, and you really CAN'T get constipated - but those repairs of mine are all perfectly fine now.

rectocele and cystocele

Hi Statio817, I think any surgery is painful. I recently had my second prolapse repair, it's not a walk in the park but as you can see from the other replies we all managed to get thru it!! A few things to remember, listen and obey the restrictions the Dr gives you (you don't want to do this again do you?), take the stool softeners religiously, avoid straining and use the anti inflammatories to keep the swelling down. Good luck with your surgery!!

rectocele and cystocele

Hi! I had a TVH with A&P repair and bladder sling on 4-10-06. I was uncomfortable afterwards, but not in any severe pain. Well, except right after surgery when coming out of the anethestic. Just make sure you drink lots of water and cranberry juice (it will be your best friend) and if you get tired of water there is crystal light that adds flavor. And stool softeners are your other best friend. Stay ahead of your pain. If you start to hurt then lay down and rest. Don't keep going until you are hurting. Not had any UTI's. I am so glad I had it done! I'm able to run, sneeze and laugh without peeing all over myself! Good luck!

rectocele and cystocele

Oh Station817, we can be scared together! I'm scheduled for an A&P repair and a TOT sling on July 10th and after reading about experiences here, I'm TERRIFIED!! Each day I think to myself, "it's not that bad, I don't need the surgery".

I go for a 2nd opinion today on the surgery; maybe he'll tell me it's not so bad...

rectocele and cystocele

Hello to all,

Thanks so much for the replies, someone asked what my symptoms are, and I tell ya they stink. I have two huge bulges all the way down to the opening of my vagina. The front one is my bladder, hence the sling I had a year ago isn't holding, and the bulge on the back wall is the rectocele. It is now to the point that I have so much pressure down there, it feels as if I am having a baby all over again. The big problem I have is that now when I need to have a bm I have to put my fingers into my vagina and push on the recotecele so I can go. It is so disgusting and awful. The pain and pressure stink. I have a very physical job I work on an ambulance and we do so much heavy lifting. I can almost feel every strain every time I lift. My appt is on the 19th of June and then surgery will be scheduled. Jost don't know if I can stick it out that long. Any more info on the surgery would be greatly appreciated.

THanks Girls

symptomatic rectocele

My symptoms of the rectocele and enterocele were like yours! Very life altering, really impacted my self esteem in a negative way! I am so glad I had the surgery. It is a tedious achey recovery, but well worth it! Hugs, Carolyn
