TEDS stockings...

Does everyone need TEDS stockings for surgery? I am having a TAH/BSO on the 23rd and wondered if I need to purchase some to take to the castle and if so, where do I purchase them?

I don't know if all hospitals or insurance are the same on this but when I had my gall bladder surgery, the hospital provided the ted hose and billed them to my insurance.

Thanks!!! One less worry for me!! Not really in this thread, but, do you need 2 body pillows for home recovery or just one? I also bought a travel pillow for the car. God bless HYSTERSISTERS for all the info!!!!

TEDS stockings...

I had a few pillows for those first few days at home.......it was hard to get comfortable and the pillows really helped with positioning so I could find a comfortable spot.......In the hospital I used their pillows ,but I did bring my own body pillow(just one!!) to cudddle with!!!!

Thanks! I am thinking if I get a Swelly Belly Band, maybe that will be enough with one pillow. I hope! Do you know how long it takes to get the SBBand? I am supposed to have a horizontal incision where my C-section was, but, as I found out on this site, it may end up being the other way during surgery. I hate to order one and then be cut the other way. Any ideas?

It is mandatory that you have ted hose with any surgery to help prevent blood clots.

Please have someone remind nurses to check the stockings...if they aren't applied correct they can cause problems. Mine were NOT checked and I now have a permanent scar around the top of my left thigh. My Dr. blasted the charge nurse and the OR nurse for not checking them. Apparnetly mine had bunched up around the top and that cut off the circulation and I ended up with the rather unsightly scar.

I'm wearing them at the moment!

You will be fitted with the right size at the hospital. They let me take 4 pairs home with me.

At first I thought the nurses were joking when they said I would have to wear the stockings until my 6 week check-up appointment. But it's true! Ah well... it's a cross I can bear. Mine are long and cover the whole of the leg. On a warm summer day like today they are a bit of a pain though...

Thanks for the info. I am stupid when it comes to these things. Are they single leg stockings with no crotch? I assume that they don't go around the waist because of the swelly belly? I didn't have these when I had my C-section or anytime after.

the ones I got were like thigh highs-came up to just above my knee. but please make sure either you or a nurse checks them! they can and do roll and and cause the same problem they are supposed to fix. As long as they are on properly they will work!
