new things learned
What is one thing you learned throughout your whole experience of having your hysterectomy?
Whether it be about yourself, or about something you learned on here, or anything in general.
Mine is: I have learned that no matter what I encompass in life, there are other people along for the ride....

new things learned
I think the biggest thing I have learned so far is that stress can be a killer. My job is awfully high stress. While the breakthrough bleeding and all the pre-op symptoms were bad on their own, it was all made worse by the job stress.
Now that I am on leave, my stress is down, my blood sugars are under control, I am feeling better than I have in years. I knew there was a chance that my blood sugars would improve with the hysterectomy, but I never imagined this much. I feel like a new person.
Now, I just want to stay the course and continue to live a better lifestyle form this point forward. It's going to be a challenge over the next few weeks to see how I can make that come true, so wish me luck!
Good thread topic, Lily!

Hi Lilly
That is such a great question. After I read it I walked away from the computer to think about it. I think i have learned about myself. I am not sure how old you are but I am 44 which I guess is on the young side. I was not able to have kids because of endo. A couple of my friends asked me how I felt about losing my organs. I am ok with it because I was tired of the cramps. Its only been 5 1/2 weeks so I may feel differently later but I am happy right now. And by the way I am getting two pups 7/8 and I can't wait. Good luck to you and I hope you find Your own Peace.

My biggest discovery through this whole endo journey, culminating with the hyster is that sometimes I just have to jump into the unknown and trust that although it's scary, it will all work itself out as it is supposed to. I was so concerned over how I would be different on this side of it, I am changed now but for the better. i just had to let go and trust others. For the first time in years I feel ALIVE and like a person in their 20's should feel. Great question.

Three awesome ladies... anymore out there???
Amy, Mareen, and Barb,
I myself had to walk away after reading each of your replies... Such a small question but one that is so deep. Most importantly... is that it makes us think about what we have been through, our journeys throughout life, and how having something bad happen to each of us... I took from each of you something valuable... WE ARE ALIVE!! How remarkable and outstanding is that ladies??? I think somedays we are so caught up in the rat race of life, jobs, family, finances, health issues, etc. that we need to sit back and think about what we learned and in each statement I felt three strong, exceptional woman!!! That alone has carried me to learning something new. Each of us with a different story and each of us with something new for someone else to carry with them. I also believe that sometimes it takes the trials of what we are dealing with in order to sit back and really think about what we learned throughout our experience that we take with us to make us better woman.
Think about it....
Barb-- she is in better health with her blood sugar, less stress, feeling better then she has in years... she has learned how LIFE SHOULD FEEL WHEN YOU ARE LIVING.. now she is going to continue this lifestyle and add years to her newfound wonderful life.... Keep on truckin Barb, you are awesome!!!
Mareen-- she learned about herself, her strength, and is happy right now... how many people in life can actually say they continue learning about themselves? People go through life not ever knowing how strong they really are because they havent been faced with something of this magnitude. Mareen you are one queen!! Your newfound strength and believing in yourself is remarkable!
Amy-- You have learned to trust others, and more importantly learned to trust YOURSELF. That is another thing many people never establish in their lives unless something test their inner being. And best of all, because of you now trusting yourself and learning to just go with it, you feel alive... what more could anyone ask in life? Big cheers to you and new freedom!
Come on hystersisters.. we need some more strength in this thread... who else has learned something from this experience, whether it be pre-op or post-op....??

Nothing quite gives you the understanding of what others are going through when you have experienced it yourself. I am thankful for good health as it was as year before I felt fully recovered from the hyster.

Wow what a good question.
I feel I've learnt to try to slow down and take life at a slightly less stressful pace.
Some things just don't matter in the scheme of things.... a little dust here or there for example.

I have learned that it is a waste of time and energy (mostly!) to worry about stuff I cannot change anyway. Or stuff that hasn't happened yet and... might never happen either!!
I have learned that eventhough my husband is in charge of our home, the children and looks after me... the world hasn't stop going around. Everything's fine. And it's ok that things are done his way. For a change
I have learned the importance of taking good care of myself. I see evidence of this every day when I test my blood sugars and they are low and fine. I am doing well also.

Very good question!! I guess the biggest thing I have learned(of better put am LEARNING) is to slow down & smell the roses. Both of my DD's are at my in-laws for a couple more weeks & the DH is deployed & won't be even able to go back to work for a few more weeks(dr said minimum 6-8 before I could even consider going back) so I am learning (tho with great difficulty) to enjoy the quiet & to be ME again- not mom, and not 'the wife'. Would be so much better if I could GO OUT to do my learning tho but I still don't even have the go ahead to drive. oh well still gotta enjoy the ME Time.

Hey Lily,
I think I will quit my therapist and start coming to you! LoL! You have far keener insight into what I need than she does.
Take care!
