I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it seemed appropriate My cousin, who is also one of my best friends, has been a great support throughout the past year and, knowing how frustrated I am at the moment, she has sent me a card. I wanted to share it with all my sisters here as it applies to us all and pretty much sums up my thoughts for you all...

Hang in there and have patience
with yourself and the situation.
Live in the moment, one day at a time,
not fretting about the past
or worrying about the future.
You have strength enough for the present,
and that is all you need for now.
Allow yourself the luxury of peace,
and don't take on more than you have to.
Learn to let go.
Refuse negative thoughts;
replace them with positive ones.
Look for the good things in your life
and make a point of appreciating them.
Believe in yourself and know
that you have the power.
You are ultimately the one
in charge of your life
and the only person in the world
who can change it.
No matter how others
are pulling for you
or how much anyone else cares,
you must do what needs to be done
to make your present and future
everything you want
and need it to be.
You can do it!

Sending these thoughts to all you wonderful ladies
Be kind to yourselves.
Clare X

(Sorry, am a bit emotional today! )

Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful words to live by today and everyday.
I am barely one year post-op and the thoughts in your post seem to mirror my first year. I never dreamed that a hysterectomy would be such a difficult and life changing experience. My first few weeks/months were a wild ride on an emotional rollercoaster. ( lots of tears, some depression, pain, unmentionalble digestive issues.....)But, I felt good about my recovery because I took it one day at a time, allowed myself to feel what I was feeling and tryed to focus on and appreciate what I COULD do, not what I couldn't do, or what I'd lost. It's not an easy process but we all get through it. My hysterectomy has changed me, in ways I can see and feel and ways I can't quite comprehend yet. Physically, I'm not what I used to be. (Never had fatigue, joint aches, restless nights, and just recenlty hot flashes, blah, blah, blah...) Everyday I see progress or at least change. ( I really didn't think it would take so long for me to recover, but we are all different, and everyone heals as their body allows). It has taken me a year but I finally figured out that healing from a hysterectomy means discovering how to handle change. (physical, and emotional, sudden, or slow).. There isn't anything linear about this healing process. It's up, down, and all around. I've found it more crucial then ever to be patient with myself and let go of expectations of how I am suppose to feel (ie: completely recovered, happy, just like I used to be etc...) . On the positive side, having a hysterectomy has given me a renewed sense of confidence, not sure why or how but it's there. I know myself better. I've found a quietness and peace, and an ability to let go (of some things ) that I never had before. All things that have helped me heal and deal with just about everything life throws at me.
So, Claire, You are dealing with a big shock and change to your body, and just beginning to heal. Be extra good to yourself. I hope my thoughts are encouraging or helpful to you. Thanks for sharing. Hang in there.
