Gettin' nervous! 1 week to go - am I ready?

Hi sisters.
Since you all have been down this road, I ask for your help once again.
My surgery is a week from today for adhesion (and who knows what else) removal. I've been reading everything on the preop board, just psyching myself up for this like I did before my hyst, preparing the same way, etc. (I don't know if I'll have a lap or they'll open me up until I get in surgery). But I still feel out of sorts about the whole thing, like I'm not ready! Of course I'm a nervous wreck, so that doesn't help!
Today, something really cool happened. See, my mom is not a very emotional person (and I'm on the complete polar opposite!) and one of those people who always stays strong and doesn't show a whole lot of emotion, or acts like they're never worried, nothing's a big deal, ok you get the point.
So she said last night she went out with some of her friends from Curves and one of the ladies prays before every meal (my mom's agnostic) and they all started eating and didn't say a prayer like normal. So my mom asked the lady if they could pray for me for my upcoming surgery!!! This is huge in a lot of ways, because she's admitting she's worried, and that my fears are validated, and she prayed! Wow!

Anyway, just had to share that. I just want to be prepared for this. I'm working right up until my pre-op on Thursday afternoon, then surgery is Friday. I just started summer classes at my university, so I have that to keep me busy. Actually, that brings up a good point. I have class the Mon. and Tues after my surgery, and I'm translating (I'm English/Spanish bilingual) at the police station for a suspect/defendent on Tuesday during the day (which could prove to be quite stressful). I plan on renting a wheelchair for those days to help me get from PointA to PointB because I know I need to rest. Will that be suffiicient? AHHHHHH!
I'm sorry, I know this seems stupid and whiny, but I'm getting nervous - at the same time, I'm ready because I can't stand this pain and swelling anymore. Even if no one writes back, thanks for listening!
Love you ladies,
Chrissy

Hi Chrissy, just want to wish you the best for Friday. Are you sure you want to try to get back to work and school so quickly? I think this may be hard for you, even with a wheelchair, for at least the first week post-op. Why don't you give your Dr a call and ask what he thinks your recovery will be like. That will give you a better idea if you need to make other arrangements for a translator for that case.
I'll be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

Chrissy,
I wish you the best next Friday too! Hey you and your Mom sound just like me and my mother. I hope she is there for you during your recovery. My mother wouldn't think of such a thing. Hugs.

Actually, I work in accounting for the gov't. I'm not going back to work for a full week and a half after my op probably (the doc said I'd be back to work on Mon the 26th! I don't think so!)
The translation thing is something I do on a volunteer basis because I love it. I was scheduling it on that Tues since I would be off from work.
I found something else out today, the whole story is on the Prayer Request board, but a coworker found out she has ovarian cancer, after the fact of her hyst (she had one ovary left). It's only making me that much more scared that it could happen to me. I just have to get through this week, and I tell ya, I couldn't do it without ya'lls support.
Thank you so much.
Bowlingirl, I'm so sorry your mom wasn't there for you. Mine might act like I'm a hypo sometimes, but she's always been there. I hope you have others in your life there to support you.
Love u girls,
C

Chrissy,
Thank you for the kind words, I have given up on my mother ever changing, in fact she gets worse with age. I have a lot of friends for support, so thanks for caring. Please let us know you are feeling post-op. Hugs.

Chrissy,
Depending on what your doctor finds when he gets inside and whether you have a lap or open, I think you should plan on taking more time off. You only have one chance to heal properly. I don't think you should push it. I learned that the hard way, always pushing myself to get back to work too early, which caused me problems and in the end the only one I hurt was myself. I now make sure I schedule enough time off when I have surgery and I let my employer know that my return depends on how I am feeling and what the doctor finds and how much work he does.

Best wishes to you.

I agree about getting back to work too early, I think
that was the start of my problems after my hyst.

I think that contributed to my problems also slt There is a time where we need to realize we are not Wonder Woman. We need to give our body a chance to heal. Even though you may be feeling okay, your body is still healing.

Well everyone was saying how great the vaginal hysts
were and how the recovery was so much easier and
quicker, and my Dr. said I could go back to work in
4 wks if I felt like it, I thought if he said that then
other women could do that, then I could do it, and of
course there is always the pressure from work to get on
back there. I think it was actually 5 wks, not sure, but
looking back on it with the type of work I do, dental assistant and on my feet all day, I should
have taken 8 wks. But I ended up with an enterocele
which took 2 yrs for someone to diagnoise and 2
surgeries. By this time the damage was done to nerves
and muscle and it has been down hill every since. When
I went back to work I felt pretty good, I was having chills and sweats I was hurting so bad. That was at the end of the day of my first week back. I am sure the cuff was not really healed, and so started the process of the bowel pushing
down into the vagina. The moral of the story is that
yes, you may feel like it to start with, but your body
has not fully healed and then there are the consequences. I don't understand why Dr's don't realize
that how you feel is not a guage for going back to work,
no matter how you feel the body can only heal so fast.
There should be a standard of at least 6 wks. I will never be the same, and I am in constant pain, and
there may be other factors involved here, but why take
a risk on messing things up a few more weeks in the scope of things is a small price to pay.
