Walking as part of recovery

I am 5-1/2 weeks post-hyst, and I've been walking daily since I returned home. I started with walking in the halls, then a block, then gradually increased. Now I'm walking 30 minutes twice a day and some days do 45. Is there anything I need to worry about at this point other than using common sense? I'm starting to do some hills, etc. I don't have pain. I haven't, however, started back to work, and it's possible fatigue will start to really it.

Would love to hear from others who do walking as exercise and for recovery.

Walking as part of recovery

Jordanwrites,

The very last thing my doc "barked" to me as he left my castle room was, "I want you walking." I KNEW what he meant. And I knew it was an "order" not a request by his tone.

Like you, the first 1-2 days, I simply made a rounds in the house. Then I started walking my own cul-de-sac. Then added on and on and on.

Now at 5.5 days, I'm walking 1.5 miles with DH at night which takes me about 30 minutes to complete. We also are adding on to our walks as I feel able to do so.

Walking as part of recovery

Hi Jordanwrites,
I have been walking outside since my 2 wk post-op appt after getting the OK from my DR. This week I added another "lap" and now I'm up to about 2 miles in 35 minutes. It makes me feel good! Keep up the walking; hope I can!

Walking as part of recovery

Hi Jordanwrites,
I to was given "orders" to walk everyday by my doc before i left the castle. I am up to 3 miles a day on the tredmill and do other walking as well. I take my timeso sometimes it takes me about an hour other days more but it feels good. started out in the house then the maialbox, down the street, around the block etc. Just listen to your body and if you are tired, hurt, pull or just feel weird-stop! you have had enough.

Walking as part of recovery

I'm so glad to have this info I've been walking on the teadmill @ a very slow pace, am up to 25 minutes today and was so afraid I might be overdoing it. Im trying to follow the good advice of (to only have one recovery do it right). This makes me feel so much better about not overdoing it. Thanks!!

Walking as part of recovery

My physio gave me a little leaflet with instructions to only walk 10 mins for 1st week after op then to increase to at least 2x 20 min walks. It does say walking downhill puts more of a strain on the 'operation site'.
But my dr also said you must walk every day and lets face it, it's about the only exercise they do let us do!!

Walking as part of recovery

Whoa Sista,
You inspire me! I used to walk 1 miles daily before the surgery so I am going nuts..I am 3wks post op, fixing to be 4 on Tuesday and I trying to increase slowly. I still have stabbing pains from what I don't know..I can't wait to get back into the swing of things!

Good for you on the walking!
