Biopsy..

Biopsy is fairly standard during hysterectomy. they simply submit the tissue (albiet tissue such as the uterus itself or the fibroid tissue) for pathology. They just want to know WHAT it is. They're not necessarily looking for cancer.

Is she going to do this during hysterectomy, or take samples prior to doing any surgery just to determine what it is? (such as from the uterine lining?)

I had an endometrial biopsy a year or so before my hysterectomy, to help diagnose why I was bleeding so much. It is done in the doctor's office, not the hospital. It is a little painful, but it gives them a better idea of what is going on. I don't think it's necessarily only for cancer, maybe to help diagnose adenomyosis. Good luck, ask lots of questions, and keep posting!
