nervous, anxious, tired, wish me luck...
Okay, tomorrow I go back to work. Now that its time, I feel nervous about it..... I couldnt get good sleep last night thinking about it either!
I hope tomorrow people dont give me the look, or even worse ask a bunch of questions... I really am not in the mood for that. I would rather just sneak in, do my job and leave for the day.
Wish me luck everyone... and any suggestions on how to handle the questions or stares would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Lisa

Oh Lisa, I wish you the best. Please keep us posted on how the day goes for you. Also, some helpful hints on what you did say to your co-workers when questions were asked. I too will be returning this week (if md says its okay on Monday) and I'm feeling very anxious. Good Luck to you.

thanks girls,
Seems strange, in the beginning I was bored and wishing I could go back, or maybe it was I was wishing I felt better and that would mean going back?? lol
now that its time to go back, I wish I had another week off.
I will keep everyone posted on how the day goes, I have already made aware that everyone is working overtime. I wonder... since I am going back early, if I can get some doctors note that say I dont have to work overtime until I am at full recovery... since I am going back after a few weeks and a couple of days?? I just dont think I can handle more then an 8 hour day.... I will be totally exhausted. That is the bad thing, they think once your back your BACK... and in totally work mode. NOT!!!!

Hey Lisa,
I just wanted to wish you the best I would talk to your doctor and ask about not doing the overtime until you are fully recovered. I know when my sis has her hysterectomy the doctor did not want her working more than 6 hrs a day and they had to work around that..Please keep up posted!

I hope all goes well for you, remember to take it as easy as you can. As for the staring and questions from coworkers, here's an idea. Take a small photo album with you, carry it with you at all times (it dosen't matter what the pictures are of, or it could even be empty). When coworkers start staring, or asking questions just pull out the album and say "Ooh, let me show you! I had the whole thing photographed, and have spent my off time scrapbooking! It's hard to find uterus shaped stickers, but I found some on-line." I don't think you'll have any takers, and the questions should end pretty soon also. Best wishes to you...

Froodychick,
that is AWESOME!!!!! I wish I wouldve asked sooner, I couldve worked on something. I wish I had a t-shirt that says... YES, I AM MISSING MY UTERUS, SO DONT MESS WITH ME, BECAUSE MY HORMONES ARE ON OVERLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I have been home a few people have been great, but some have emailed stupid comments. I ignore their emails, might have been rude, but kept me from being rude back. One gal actually had the nerve to say, your lucky you can recover without a husband nagging your for sex, since you wont be in the mood for a long time. what kind of statement is that???????????????? Just because I dont have a husband doesnt mean I dont think about sex. and how would she know that just because her uterus is still intact what my sexual thoughts are??
Its irratating.... too bad I didnt have a picture of a uterus to send back to her and wish her uterus a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See....more stupid people!! We're SURROUNDED BY THEM!!!!
I had one friend (yes the same one from before) mention how cool it is that I won't have to deal with a period any more...guess she missed the fact that I will still have PMS and really...considering what I had to give up...I'd rather have my period! But I laughed and said I'd send her my left over pads! (funny how when my best friend said the same comment to me, I really did laugh, between the tears --maybe it's just the person the comment comes from?)
ANYWHO, work, if people start asking too many questions remind them that while you are back at work, you ARE still healing. You can also politely tell them you aren't up to getting into the details and are relieved just to get back to some normalcy in life. (I'm fortunate to work with men who are happy with limited response LOL) Get a note from your doc stating exactly what your limitations are (weight/activity/hours). You can ask your doc to limit your daily hours to whatever you are comfy with. Going back early...you definately are NOT ready to go back full-swing!

Thanks Vega,
I think you are right, I will call the doctor tomorrow and get me something to limit my workload. Too bad I cant get an excuse from the doctor to hand out to the ignorant people that says... please leave this uterus free lady alone for about 6 more weeks.
Or I could post a note.... 'speak at your own risk'..... on my desk.
you are lucky with working with men that way. Believe me its rough working with about 150 woman in the office.
Kill em' with kindness.... that might be the best route.... then as they walk away smile my own evil grin and leave it at that.
Even before I had a hysterectomy.... I knew woman that did, and I never made stupid statements. My fav was the day I left, the gal sitting next to me said wow.... you are so lucky, wonder if your doc would do a two for one??? was she kidding????? two for one?? hell, if her uterus was working that great and free of female problems, I could have suggest a 'uterus/cervix' transplant. Geez, give me a break. I am sitting there sick to my stomach, couldnt hardly walk for 6 weeks without feeling my insides coming out. Up all night crying cause the pain and she thinks I am lucky?? that is someone that doesnt know what empathy is, then leaves it at that. I tell ya what luck is, its woman who have hystersisters to come too.... I honestly think without it, some of us might crack.... LOL
I can joke with people here, because they know how i feel, however its hard to joke with someone that hasnt been there and thinks its not a big deal.
Maybe we need to put together the Million Hystersisters March.. and march up to Washington and change the ways woman are sometimes treats afterwards.... LOL

nervous, anxious, tired, wish me luck...
I went back this past Wednesday on a part time basis. (I feel forced back based on my short term disability insurance fiasco.) Anyway, I did have the DR fax a note to my HR that basically states "She's cleared to go to work, and she is cleared to leave when she tires."
I made it 3.5 hours Wednesday; 1.5 Thursday, and 5 on Friday. Of course I could have pushed harder, but it would only hurt me more.
The biggest difference and issue for me was the fact that I could not just go lay in my bed to rest. I could shut my door for peace and quiet, but I had to be able to drive home for ten minutes before I could take my nap. At times this week, staying awake that long was a real effort because it was go-go-go. Then people would finally give me a moment, and I would realize how exhausted I was.
I didn't do a whole lot of announcing ahead of time where I was going or what I was doing, so some of my executive colleagues asked how I enjoyed my vacation! I just said-- "oh it was lovely having my innards yanked out." One actually gave me a deadpan sounding reply of "oh."
One sister on the boards mentioned going home at noon for an extended nap. If your company insists that you put in a certain number of hours, then I would recommend getting the noon nap accomodation. I am sure the DR would write that out too.
Good luck. Keep your old maxipads nearby, so you can slap them on the stupid people's foreheads as award for stupid questions! Maybe you can put the hyster sister url on them and a statement like "Get a clue!"
