blue/blonde,

It's most likely a reaction to the anesthesia but you should call your doctor. I would also call your hairdresser and see if he/she could recommend a treatment system that will help you keep what you have and stimulate new growth. I started on one before surgery because I have lost hair after every time I've gone under general anesthesia.

Hi Blue/blonde,
I didn't seem to have hair loss after my hysterectomy on March 10th, but last year after a major abdominal surgery (january '05), I lost a lot of hair. I had very thick, long hair, and I noticed when I put it in a pony tail it was about half as thick! Thankfully, after a few months I seemed to stop losing it, but it still is not back to normal. I think that just going through such a physical trauma can have an effect, and it may also be related to hormone loss and aging. Sorry you are experiencing this. It's frustrating! Hopefully though, as you recover, your hair will thicken up too.

Hi, this has happened to me with every surgery. I am a hair dresser as well and have worked in the hair replacement feild at one time. What I do and would recomend every person going through any type of surgery to do is the following.
Start taking B complex vitamins and a C vitamin daily, it will help with re-growth of your har as well as your tissues. Shampoo exculsively with Jojoba shampoo and use a good protein conditioner at least once a week. I use one from Bellasenza called Healthy Hair Restore.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.
