Ablation

Hi. I have had abnormal uterine bleeding and have been diagnosed with a 3-4 cm. fibroid and ovarian cysts. After another episode of all-the-time bleeding and seeing my doctor, I've decided to undergo a hysteroscopy, D&C biopsy with a balloon endometrial ablation on July 11.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Hi Emeraldcitea:

You can find some good info re ablation, and other gals who are choosing this option here: http://home.att.net/~endometrial_abl...ondefined.html

I hope this will take care of your symptoms... Keep us posted

Ablation

Hi Emeraldcitea,
I had a thermal balloon ablation just over a month ago. It was my second one. The recovery is not too bad, just plan on at least a few days to take care of yourself only. Sleep, watch TV, read--take pain medication if they prescribe it. No one will be able to tell you just had surgery so it will be up to you to take enough time to recover. Expect a couple of weeks of feeling more tired as your body heals within. Give yourself a break as much as you can. You'll be glad you did.
Good luck,
Musicmaiden

Thanks, ajm2001, Beth and Musicmaiden! I am already exhausted, I'm assuming from the blood loss/length of the bleeding/possible anemia. I am taking my iron.

Has anyone who has had an ablation also had fibroids? I'm hoping, that in spite of my fibroid, and enlarged uterus, that this works!

Ablation

Hi again,

Yes, I had fibroids. Mine weren't very big though. I took Lupron for 3 months prior to my ablation to try to shrink them and thin the endometrial lining down since my lining was thickened.

I had a hysteroscopic myomectomy with mine. A scope inserted into the uterus via the cervix, with a tool attached that can resect the fibroid. When they were doing it, they discovered some of my fibroids were actually nodules of adenomyosis and they couldn't resect those.

Did your doc say where your fibroids are located? The ones located just under the inside lining of the uterus are the ones thought to cause heavy bleeding. I've heard ablations can still be successful on women with fibroids, but the odds are better if the fibroids are on the outer wall, or at least not causing much distortion to the inside cavity of the uterus; because distortion can cause problems getting a good seal.
I had a rollerball ablation. It's an older method and quite time-consuming because the procedure requires meticulous laser removal - done by hand, as opposed to the thermal one.

What does your doc say about the size/ location of your fibroids?

s

Hi, Beth. My fibroid is 3-4 cm and the doctor said it was "through and through".
