Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

It has been six years since my hysterectomy, and I definitely rejoice. I feel very lucky because my surgery and recovery went smoothly, I have had a whole new life since that day.

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

I don't regret the hysterectomy itself, it's the type of hysterectomy that I had. I had everything removed except the ovaries. I'm really wishing I had done differently and kept everything except the uterus.

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

I regret my hyst so much. I want another baby and now I can't. I feel like I wasn't informed as to the complications and how I would feel emotionally after this. And I feel like maybe we didn't try everything to not have it done.

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

Definitely rejoice.
Totally glad to be rid of fibroids, heavy periods and everything that went with it.

No pain before or after.
Already going through the menopause before the hys, so it must come to an end sometime!

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

I only regret, I haven't had LAVH years before.

I never was in pain after surgery, I recovered fast and good, just the swelly belly and some back pain because I can't do my usual exercises.

But to think about, what I've missed during the last years because I couldn't leave the house or enjoy vacations ...

I rejoice :-)

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

Both - At 6 months, I'm still in the healing process. I'm glad that I made the decision and that I'm not carrying around the ridculously huge fibroids any more. However, the recovery was a lot longer and bumpier that I thought it would be. My hope is that the remaining pain settles down in the next few months and I can finally wear regular jeans with zippers again. At that point, I'll be solidly on the rejoice side.

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

Rejoice that I am no longer in pain but regret having the BSO. I hate this HRT merry go round.

Re: Regret or Rejoice Having Hysterectomy?

Two years later I most definitely can say rejoice. It has been so nice having to not worry about heavy bleeding and fibroids. Along with all the expense of buying pads and tampons over the years.

And most importantly I am really able to enjoy riding my horse a lot more often!!!

I smile whenever I go by the feminine products aisle at the grocery store.
