Prolapse question listed in Checkpoints..anyone know?

Hi there, I was reading over the checkpoints listed on the 3-4 week post op and at the very bottom is says you may want to ask your doctor about the odds of ending up with prolapse. Does anyone know what that means?? I had a TAH/BSO and can't imagine what would prolapse and am now scared. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Hi There!

Try not to panic too much. I had the same surgery as you did, and three years later, nothing has "prolapsed" on me at all. Like you, I don't understand what would be "there" to potentially "fall out of the vagina," after everything has been removed. Maybe some members who are knowledgeable in the field of anatomy or physiology will come along and enlighten us.

Actually, I think this means asking about when and whether or not you should do pelvic floor excercises and if your hormone balance is adequate to take care of pelvic floor needs.

My hyst was close to 6 years ago and I have had not prolapse issues to date. Interestingly enough, prolapse has never been something my dr and I have disscussed, although Kegel excercises have been mentioned.

Okay, here is a link to another thread on the site you might find helpful: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...7&page=1&pp=20.

My Dr discusssed this issue with me before my surgery. Even tho all the 'stuff' has been removed there are times that the tissue that is holding the vaginal cuff(many times attached to the muscles that once were attached to the uterus) doesn't hold or is severely weak already. In such case there is a chance that your new vaginal cavity can prolapse. I did a lil looking on the net & did find pics & everything *EWWW* basically it would be just like a sock turned inside out. Only its the vaginal tissue out of your vasinal opening. I know nasty- The % that the Dr said of it happening can be as high as 20% - decreasing of course if you heal correctly & DO NOT over do it during recovery. But regardles there is the chance that it can happen- even with a good recovery.
