Terrified Pre-op

Hello all, I am new here and just decided to have a hysterectomy this week. My surgery is scheduled for August 3rd. I have been reading so much information and I am terrified of what to expect. Let me tell you a little bit about my history.
I am 28 years old and since the time I was 16, I have had recurrent ovarian cysts, dermoids to be exact. I am facing my 8th surgery for this. I have had 4 laparotomies and 3 laparoscopies. I lost one ovary and tube during my first surgery at 16 and my only other tube was diagnosed non-funtional a few years ago. When my doctor told me I had to have another laparoscopy and my only remaining ovary might not make it, I decided to go on and have a hysterectomy. My husband and I cannot endure any more surgeries or me suffering from the pain and recovery every 1-2 years.
My doctor is going to attempt a laparoscopy to remove the cysts, ovary, and uterus. I am scared to death that he may have to do an abdominal because I have so many adhesions, and my tube is wrapped around my ovary and attached to my bowel.
I am looking for true woman to woman support and guidance, as you know this reading material can be frightening. What do I expect? Will my hormones really go crazy? Does sex really change? Once I heal, how will I feel? I am scared that I may not recover emotionally and feel like less of a woman or something. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi willis91503,
I am very sorry that you have been going through all of this! The biggest advice I can give you is not to think to far in advance. Take each step as it comes. No one can tell you what to do but I am sure your dr. will have your best interest in mind. The next advice I can give you is to, every step of the way, stay with this website. This site has help thousands of women go through similar situations that you are going through. Even if all you want to do is vent!!!
Take care and let us know how things are going,
Debbie

Thank you Deb. Even though I only joined this site yesterday, I already feel more at ease knowing I am not alone. I appreciate your advice and your kind words.
