confused about hormones

hi,
I had my hyst on 4-3-001 .They removed my uterus, ovaries, tubes and my cervix :-(.The reason beeing was fibroids and cysts. At 2weeks post-up my OBGYN put me on premarin 0.9mg 1x a day.It helped the hotflashes but now Iam getting headaches. On 5-16 I will go in for my 6 weeks post-up checkup and I will ask the Doc. to change my HRT to something a little more natural.I hate the thought og the "horsepee" :-(I have heard good things abot estradiol. But what confuses me is why only Estrogen,no progestorone or a little testestorone as well? Will my sexlife which was great before surgery be the same now?So far not one single little sexy thought has been in my head.My husband of 21 years is very patient.I need help............... :-)

confused about hormones

Rosi,
You will find a list of the various forms of estrogen replacement at www.hormonejungle.com/estrogen.php
Perhaps you could print out this list and take it in and discuss your options with your doctor.

Unfortunately alot of doctors do not believe in progesterone replacement once the uterus has been removed. Initially progesterone was used to protect the uterus when taking estrogen. However, alot of us have found progesterone to be helpful in our overall hormonal balance. That is not to say that you absolutely have to have progesterone to achieve a balance. There are some women who can't tolerate it, and some who have found their balance without it. For me, I wouldn't be without it. You can read more about it here www.hormonejungle.com/progesterone.php , there's also a good article here www.hormonejungle.com/progest.php

You can read more about testosterone here www.hormonejungle.com/test.php Here again, some women need it, some don't.

Good luck in your recovery Rosi. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
