Wanted to know if anyone attempted an amusment park before week 8? We had planned a trip to Disneyland in August for my DS. I can get a wheelchair to help with the long distance walking problem, but what about rides?

Hmmmmm......this sounds like one for the doctor. Maybe some mild rides wouldn't be bad -- but I'd stay away from Space Mountain - LOL Although my ride into the Bronx, NY on Sunday sure bounced me around a bit. Whatever the outcome, I hope you have fun!!

Hi Tink! You're asking the right Sister. I live 1hour from DisneyWorld and I go to DL once a year for my anniversary. Now, it will be very very early in recovery to attempt a park. But if you are a park veteran there are steps you can take to get you thru and enjoy. Here are my suggestions.
Get a HotelRoom! This way you can take naps at any point in the day. If you don't have a room, then go to First Aid or a NapStation. We have 1 in DW that is really for parents with kids. But you can usually get in there too. Just ask at TownHall.
Next, get a motorized scooter that you can take outside the park. Not a Disney Scooter, but 1 you have rented that you can ride up that long walk from the parking lot to the front entrance. This 1 tip will really save you.
Do Not do any fast jerking rides. They will set off your swelly belly. Please skip the MatterHorn. This is an Very old coaster and jerks the mess outta you. Space Mountain is also not a great idea because it now spirals and spins all in 1 direction which puts alot of pressure on just 1 side. ..But think of all you can enjoy! It's a Small World, Pirates, etc.
Keep meds with you at all times and take on time whether you need them or not. And don't take them with spicy food.
Take breaks often whether you feel the need or not and don't Stand in line. Have someone hold your place and go sit. And go back to your room and take a Planned nap.
Last bit of advice. Let park staff know that you have special needs. They get this All the time from people and have even better ideas than I do. I have found that they love to help and usually have a plan for those who need extra care.
So how do I know all these things? Because I did it, just not at 8 weeks. As always check with your dr first. And follow his advice.
I wish you the very best of times at Disney.

Thanks so much for the advice. My Dh decided we should stay at the DL hotel, that way we get to take the monarail in. I am trying to get ahold of my doc, he is on vacation and no one wants to answer for him.

Ah yes Tink, the perfect choice! I think the Monorail will pick you up at the end of Downtown Dis and let you off in TomLand. But plz. Still get the scooter I mentioned. It will come in so handy. I remember being swelly at mid day and was just gonna sit down for a break and the nearest chair was a hike and a half away. Not good. Scooters usually aren't very expensive. And
as added bonus, whatever you buy you wont' have to carry the scooter has a basket so everyone can put their stuff in it.

Please enjoy! I hope to be there in Nov.

OMG I went to Universal Studios Orlando at week 8 and rode The Hulk (which was totally awesome by the way ) There were tons of warnings about not riding it and I was nervous but I did fine. Only you will be able to tell what you can and can't do. Have fun!

as for staying at dl hotel, be prepared to walk QUITE a ways for the monorail. i would ask at the front desk to see if you can get some sort of ride. we stayed at dl hotel cuz we thought it would be the closest, its not. if you want the closest, the grand californian is the one you want.

the grand cali lets you right into cali adventure. then you can go right on over to disney from there in your chair. of course you pay for this the grand cali is quite spendy. another option is to have your fam rent a chair and bring it to you.
