HELP - Stopping HRT

Hi all. I had a TAH/BSO in 11/01. I was 31 and have taken 1.25 mg Premarin and 100 mg Zoloft since. With my doc's blessing, I slowly reduced usage of both over a 3-month period. I haven't taken anything for about 2 months now, and I am miserable. I am suffering from hot flashes, night sweats, depression, inability to concentrate, insomnia and I can't even think about sex. I have done a lot of research about natural alternatives, and I have to admit I am totally lost. One report suggests soy isoflavones is the cure, another cautions that they are dangerous. My doc wants me to resume both medications, which seems to be my only hope of living a sane life. I hate the thought of being tied to medication for the rest of my life. I also hate the thought of continuing to live the way I am now. Anyone have any advice?

HELP - Stopping HRT

Hi!

For me it is a quality of life issue. I simply do not feel well when my hormone levels are low. I'm 50 now and won't be giving up my hormone therapy any time soon. My doctor is fine with this. I have annual checkups with all the testing my doctor recommends and so far, so good.

I do understand not wanting to take medication. I'm not a big fan of taking pills or using medications, but I'll take that over the alternative of not feeling well.

Only you can decide which way is the right way for you. Have you looked in the Resource Database yet? There are two categories in particular which could help you. One is called Hormone Jungle - Hormone Resources and the other is Hormone Jungle - No Hormones.

You might also want to read this article called HRT? No HRT? How to Decide?.

Good luck with your decision! I'm sure you will make the right choice for you.

HELP - Stopping HRT

AprilDaawn is absolutely right. It's a quality of life issue, and only you can decide what you are willing to live with. I just turned 50, and I can tell you that they will have to pry my estrogen patch out of my cold, dead fingers before I will give it up!
