scared/have questions

Hello-I am brand new on these boards-In 2004 I had a D&C w/Hysterscope-due to mild bleeding between periods-Had a polyp-benign-the dr said my Uterus was enlarged-I had another D&C/Hysterscope w/Ablation on July14-2006-I had my yearly visit to the DR-and told him I was having awful periods-heavy/lots of cramping-Since I am 41yrs old-do not want more kids he suggested the Ablation-I called him on this Wed to get results-he said that I have Atypical Adenomatous cells-He said it was considered pre-cancerous-he said he talked to the pathlogist-to double check on results-He has suggested a complete Hyster-ovaries and all-Well I am very nervous/scared-Has anyone ever gone through this-and have it end up being cancer? I go back to the Dr July-25-to talk to him and schedule the procedure-Any imput is welcomed---THANK YOU-

scared/have questions

Hi there,

I haven't gone through this, but I do understand your fear. I dont have any advice other than to follow up with a GYNECOLOGICAL ONCOLOGIST if they think there is any chance of cancer being involved.
Hopefully, that won't be the case. But please, if cancer is suspect, you want the best in the business doing your surgery..and that would be a gyn/oncologist.

hopefully, someone who has been through what you are going through will be by shortly to help you out. In the meantime, in there!
Good luck...please let us know how your appointment on the 25th goes.

scared/have questions

Hi,
to Hystersisters; I'm glad you found us.
I was trying to get a better idea of what "Atypical Adenomatous cells" might be. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperplasia "atypical adenomatous hyperplasia" is the same as complex atypical hyperplasia of the endometrium. If this in fact is your DX there are a number of women on this site who've had this DX including myself. In my case surgery showed that I had cancer but at an early stage; when caught early surgery alone frequently is the cure.
I'd also like to suggest that at the least pls consider consulting with a gyn/onc as they have extensive experience dealing with pre-cancer and cancer. Pls let us know how you are doing.
s,
peggiesue

scared/have questions

I had almost the same situation. I had a D&C followed by ablation and thought Hooray! that ends my bleeding heavily problem. But then was called to say the path report showed atypical complex hyperplasia ( precancer). I was told a percentage of these would be early stage cancer. I was scared but had hyster. I did see a gyn/onc. who thought it OK to let my Gyn do surgery. Had the hyster ( left ovaries) and it was still only atypical complex hyperplasia. No evidence of cancer. My regret is I left my ovaries which appeared healthy. 9 months later I had a swelling in groin lymph nodes and a mass was removed which turned out to be cancerous. They thought sure it was ovarian cancer and I can't tell you how I regretted not having my ovaries out. So, I had to go through another surgery to remove ovaries. But it turned out not to be related to my ovaries so now I don't have as much remorse about ignoring the doctor's advice. So, I would suggest first of all you have a gyn/onc. do your surgery if possible. Second, if they suggest removing your ovaries and you are close to menopause, let them go. Try to relax and look at it as a blessing of sorts because if it would happen to be cancer it would be in a early and very curable stage. Best wishes to you as you go down this road.

Hitch86,

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. I had varying escalated testing and treatments for mid-cycle bleeding, which turned to pretty much 3-4 wks bleeding with a 1 wk break and major anemia. I eventually decided to have an ablation. My D&C 6 months before the ablation came back fine, the endo biopsy right before the procedure came back fine, and the ablation worked like a charm for almost a year. Then I started back with the bleeding again and went immediately to the doctor. They did another biopsy which came back as endo hyperplasia with a focal point of complex cells with no atypia. At that point, they put me on progesterone supplementation monthly for 6 months. After the 6 months were up, I had another endo biopsy which showed Grade 1 endometrial cancer. Truthfully, I don't think my regular OB/GYN dosed the progesterone correctly after talking with quite a few women in similar situations. It may have turned out different if I had gone to a GYN/ONCO at that point. I was diagnosed in February and had my TAH/BSO on April 5th. From the surgery they said it looked like a Stage 1A, but the path report showed Stage 2A (lower in the uterus and just touching the cervical mucosa).

If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd have them take everything out, incuding the ovaries, 2 yrs ago when I first had the ablation. As I say that, I also say that I have been lucky and the symptoms of menopause for me have been very mild - probably because I'm

I'll keep you in my prayers. It's so hard to make a decision, but I would consult an GYN/ONCO instead of a regular OB/GYN.

Just wondering how your Dr appointment went. Sounds like we've been diagnosed with the same thing ... difference being I haven't been been through all the eariler treatments you've been through. I had breast cancer in 2003 so they seem to be going right for the hysterectomy.

I'm very interested to hear what your dr said, their advice, and what you think about the whole thing. I see the gyno-oncologist next week and the more things I can hit him with the happier I'll be about the decisions I make going forward.

As everyone will say here, you are not alone. I'm finding it very helpful to talk to others going through the same decision making processes I'm going through.

dr today

Well went to the DR. today I am scheduled to have a TAH/BSO-on July31-I am nervous but I really like my DR. and trust him. I feel better now that I talked to him-he said that the results on the biopsies shows Focal aytypia cells or something like that-but he indicated that sense it is focal that is better then not being Focal-I am scared about removal of the ovaries and cervix-but he was very reassuring-good luck to you as well.

Don't be afraid of a total hysterectomy. I should have had it done long ago because of fibroids. I was out of the hospital in three days and off percocet 5 days after that. I think it will give you peace of mind. Good luck and God Bless.
