Pre-op nightmares

I had gotten the news suddenly and with less than two weeks to prepare I have been full steam ahead. Things to arrange, information to obsorb. I had been feeling okay I guess because distracted by all I have going on. But last night I had horrible nightmares! Have had trouble shaking them off this morning and feeling emotionly on shaky ground. I know this is what needs to be done and I will feel so much better on the other side. I just feel like crying my eyes out but I don't want to make anyone worry more than they already are. Are the nightmares to be expected, really caught me off guard. Thanks for listening, Miss Logic just surprised by emotional reaction.

Pre-op nightmares

I read that aside from taking care of practical things that preparing oneself emotionally is just as important. It sounds like you have been so distracted with the former that your emotions have been suppressed. But they are coming out in your dreams because they have to be recognized. As a counselor I sat down and wrote out ALL my feelings in a journal and it really helped me get in touch with an array of emotions. I was scared of the unknown of surgery, sad that I was losing my ability to have children, angry that it was happening to me, happy at the prospect of a pain-free life, etc... Also, it helped me to visualize the morning of surgery and how I would recover. In other words, try and take the time to FEEL. I hope this makes sense???? I'll be thinking of you.

Me too!

Hi! I'm July 31st too and last night I didn't exactly have a nightmare but a really bizarre dream that I saw was definitely related to my upcoming surgery. Have you been somehow "ignoring" the surgery? I have. I've been so wrapped up in work, my absent husband and my kids that I have been trying to act like it's no big deal but my dream last night made me really focus on it and that's why I'm on here today. It's about a week away now and I think it's becoming a reality to me todaY so maybe it is for you too. We're almost there so hang in there! We're going to feel soooo much better when it's all over. Blessings to you!

Pre-op nightmares

Thank you for your responses. I know sometimes I get on the "logic" kick and forget to let myself feel. I did buy a journal today and took some time to write down what in the dream was so disturbing. Talk about repression! I let the tears flow as freely as the ink and had a long talk with a dear friend. I was concerned that my tears would be upsetting to her but she said she was glad to see me letting it out. Amazing how supportive people can be when you just let them. Time for superwoman to take off her cape and put on her crown. I know there will be more moments like these ahead in the next week and I want to thank you for letting me talk about it and for your encouragement. You are all in my thoughts too. In this last week I have gained more than I could ever have imagined from the amazing women on this site. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
