Psychiatric Treatment Hand in Hand

I am bi-polar.... no the the crazy kind you see stereo-typed on TV, but I am on medications for it. I am considered somewhat "managed" in so much as any woman with 2 kids living abroad can be. I also suffer from Chronic insomnia- (this was BEFORE the whole hysterectomy thing).
I was wondering how many other sisters out there have had to walk that fine line between two different kind of medical needs. I mean I have talked to both doctors about the treatments of the other- but girlie hormone stuff and crazy in the head stuff go rather hand in hand at times, don't they? Neither has said or prescribed anything to contraindicate the other- but I still feel a like stuck in the center of two very serious things that are waiting at the doors to eat me alive.

Psychiatric Treatment Hand in Hand

I have been diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and depression (following the hyst). My gyn suggested I talk with a therapist, who in turn suggested I see a psychiatrist for an evaluation to take meds. I was surprised that the psychiatrist didn't want to even consider touching the hormone issue and was leaving that (and my lack of libido & sex drive) up to my gyn. I just would like to get my psychiatrist; my therapist; my gynecologist and my primary MD in ONE room and say "look here.....can we ALL agree on some meds that will help the conditions that you are ALL treating???!!!". I feel stuck between doctors and it is frustrating.
Hang in there, ok? You're not alone and we'll get through this!

Ms Freud -

My sister is bipolar and had a hysterectomy - but kept her ovaries. She told me that having a hysterectomy didn't affect any of her meds/moods because everything stayed the same after her sugery.

I don't know if this applies in your situation (because I don't know if your doctor can save one or both of your ovaries so you won't have to worry with HRT) - but I do hope that sharing my sister's experience helps a little.

Thanks Noni- I have Adenomyosis, so the ovaries stay.
It just seems rough trying to keep it on the level mentally when I am freaking out about this up and coming "goodbye uterus" party.
