to remove ovaries or not to remove

Hello All-scheduled for TAH/BSO on July31-due to Endometrial Atypical Adenomatous hyperplasia-I saw my DR yesterday-and he would recommend TAH/BSO-but it is my decision on the ovaries-I will be 42 in OCT-and he recommends under 40 keep ovaries-at 45 take ovaries-and I am right in the middle-he suggested to me to take the ovaries-but I am not sure-he said he would give me hormones-if need be-What do you guys think-I am a Libra-and have a very hard time making decisions!!!!!!!

to remove ovaries or not to remove

Hi Hitch

I was right in the middle too (I was 43). It is a hard decision to make. My GP wanted me to keep them, and my gyn/onc advised taking them out. (A consensus would have been nice!)

After a few weeks of thinking and asking my DH, mother etc. for advice, I decided to have them removed. I am a super worrywart and figured it would give me less to worry about (i.e. the cancer spreading to them later - even though chances of that were slim).

I was nervous about HRT, but it's been just over a year and so far no major side effects. I'm on Premarin .625 and am feeling quite good. Pretty much everything about my life is the same as before (including weight, appearance, sex life) Of course now I have to watch my calcium intake and exercise, but that's minor.

It's a very personal decision and I don't advise you one way or the other - but I wanted to share my experience with you.

Good luck whichever way you go!

to remove ovaries or not to remove

I understand your situation as I went through the same thing at 51. Yes, I knew I was near menopause but just wanted to go through it more naturally. So, I opted to keep them against my gyn and gyn/onc's advice. I said " If healthy keep them/ if not out they go". I was happy to keep my hormones. However, 9 months later I had some problems and they thought sure I had ovarian cancer. I didn't but I can't tell you the horrible way I felt knowing that I could have avoided this by having them removed. Now they are removed and it's not so horrible. I can't tell you what to do because everything would probably be OK with keeping them BUT there is that very small chance something could happen. Difficult decision I know so best wishes to you in whatever you decide.
