If it weren't for bad luck...
I recently completed radiation--yippy. The bad thing is that I was feeling kind of crappy (sweating, fatigue, general flu-like, knee pain, headache, neck pain, insomnia) and I was wondering why?? I looked down at my calf and discovered a bull's eye rash. Yup you guessed it, Lyme's disease. I'm concerned about my immune system with just finishing radiation. I want to find more info related to Lymes disease and cancer. Anyone know of any sources of info. If so, please, please let me know. Should I contact my oncs? I'm thinking, "what's next?" As one of my friends said once, "if it weren't for bad luck, Jenn, you'd have no luck." The good part of cancer (if there is any and I guess there is) is that everything else seems like a piece of cake after you are told you have cancer. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!!!!

I would recommend contacting an infectious disesae doctor--perhaps your onc. will need to talk to him/her to get a quicker appointment. I wouldn't want to have to deal with Lyme, much less anything serious, right safter radiaton and if I were undure of my immune system.

Hi JJ,
Hooray for finishing radiation!
Are you suspecting Lyme disease, or was it diagnosed by a physician already? My understanding is that it's usually treated as soon as possible by a regimen of antibiotics. But check with your doctor if you have questions about your immune system. And let us know if you learn anything about cancer and Lyme disease.
Good luck, and feel better soon.

I am being treated with 3 weeks of antibiotics for the lymes disease. I guess one of the real stinkers about this is that my bowels are already hurting from pelvic radiation. I'm not looking forward to additional problems as a result of antibiotics. I guess I'll contact my onc and see what they have to say. In the meantime, I'll just keep poking around for info.
