Now I am starting to panic

I was searching on the internet for some good books to read, when I stumbled on all sorts of books about hysterectomies, HRT, recovery, life-long problems as a result and I am scared to death. I just want to run, scream, and hide.

I know that every woman is different, and not everyone has a bad experience. My mind is just trying to get the best of me and imagine the worst. I had full confidence in my dr and was completely comfortable knowing everything I was getting into, but now I am seriously having second thoughts and am considering fighting through the pain and misery.

Help! I need some encouraging words and some true, post op stories!!!

Now I am starting to panic

Take a deeeeep breath.

I'm four days post-op, and I can personally tell you that I feel better, all in all, than I did in the days preceding my procedure. I'm taking my meds on-schedule and letting my body dictate my life. If that means only being awake for two hours between naps, then so be it. I'm diabetic, so I have to force myself to eat, but that's why I spent $$ on liquid food suppliments.

Keep in mind that more people are moved to speak of negative experiences, happy people don't tend to burble about being okay as much.

If you have any specific questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

Now I am starting to panic

Hi willis91503!

I think the best place on the Hystersisters site to gain wisdom and insight into "the entire hysterectomy experience" is the Beyond the Land of Hyster forum, where members come to share information about their lives at one year, two years, or many years post-op. Do yourself a favor and do some reading there. It should help to put things in perspective.

Many s and Best Wishes,

Now I am starting to panic

well I am a happy one..56 years old and no longer looking or feeling pregnant. My recovery has been basically uneventful. Although I am still tired I really feel I have a new lease on life and that the future has to be better than the experience I have gone through. I have absolutely no regrets about my decision. Good luck and hang in there!! We are here for you!!

Now I am starting to panic

Hi Willis

I am happy to share my positive outcome.

I too suffered from heavy periods which were causing me constant anxiety at work and in social situations. I had other problems caused by my large fibroid.

Like you I had confidence in my dr and I felt the hyst was my best hope of good health. I had the TAH.

3 months on, I feel better than I have in years. It feels like a weight has been lifted off me. I can concentrate on work or relaxing without constantly worrying that I will start bleeding. Many other health probs (indigestion, incontinence, stomach pains) have gone. I feel more relaxed about sex.

Yes, the 8 weeks I took to recover were not easy. But I had a lot of support on this site. I am happy to answer any other questions.

Best wishes. You and your dr are the only ones who know about your problems so you are in the best place to make your own decisions.
Liz

Now I am starting to panic

thank you all for sharing your stories and support. I know this is the right thing to do I am just scared to death. I had nightmares all night that I could feel everything, like the anesthesia wasnt strong enough. I am supposed to have the LSH, but I am afraid they will have to convert to a TAH or something. I had dreams that they removed my cervix and it ruined my sex life and everything. The mind is a powerful thing!

Now I am starting to panic

Hi Willis,

I also had a LSH and I can relate to the concerns you are having. I was there too. In pre-op, my mom, a veteran of several surgeries, kept telling me that ~waiting~ was the hardest part. And looking back...there is a lot of truth to that. In pre-op, I was scared to death half the time!!

So hang in there!! We Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can. You are having normal feelings leading up to a surgery. I think most of us Hyster Sisters have experienced ~or~ are experiencing some of the same emotions you are going through. So do not feel alone!! We are here.

Best wishes,

Mary
