Painful urination...pain in bladder area...help!

Hi everyone! I had a hysterectomy on June 28th, 2006. I lived with endometriosis for approx. 7 years and finally decided to go ahead with the surgery. My husband and I were thrilled with the results and were both looking forward to me being completely recovered. However, about 4 weeks into the recovery, I began having trouble urinating peacefully. I assumed it was a UTI and I was given antibiotics. A few days later, the pain returned full force and I was put on an even stronger antibiotic. This time the pain did not ease. I saw my OBGYN yesterday and he referred me to a urinologist, who has scheduled a CT Scan.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems? My pain is concentrated on the left side of the stomach, just below the bikini line incision. The doctor mentioned that the symptoms seem consistent with IC (Interstitial Cystitis). We have read up on this and we are scared. IC seems very similar to endo, except it is cysts in the bladder...no cure at this point!

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this and if so, could it be something other than IC? I am praying that this can be treated successfully!

God bless!

Did you have a bladder sling put in? Are you going alot when you void or just alittle? I think that its common to have some bladder distress, but it should subside. i had a bladder sling put in and it was too tight and they had to go in and cut it. Sue

I had a total hysterectomy, but I am not aware of a bladder sling. Are they common? I urinate a normal amount; however, the end is painful. Very similar feeling to a UTI, but all tests have come back negative, and the antibiotics have not been successful.

I have been diagnosed with IC for 1 year now. There is medicine called Elmiron that really does help. The only problem with Elmiron is you have to take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, 3 times a day. It really takes some getting used to the schedule. I am going in for a CT scan today because the pain is back. Left side under the bikini line, same as yours. I had my LAVH in November of last year and the pain came back within 2 months. Let me know how you are doing.

Hi Sweetpeakel,

I have had pain on the left side of my abdomen - above and below the incision line.

I have also had pain in the bladder and urethra when urinating. The worse pain is at the end of the flow.

My doctor did a urinalysis and an ultrasound - and both came back fine. He told me that my pain was probably due to bladder spasms and general healing. He told me to give it time (and to continue to take my pain meds and/or muscle relaxers).

This last week, I noticed that it hurts less - so I guess it is just a healing thing for me.

I hope you are able to resolve this issue with your doctor.

hey there. i also have quite a bit of pain in my bladder. it is most intense when i urinate first thing in the morning. it does last throughout the day, though. i have not gone to the doc again about this. i told them early in my recovery that i was having alot of pain there. i was tested for a uti, and put on antibiotics, but the culture came back negative. they told me that it was just part of the healing process. ?? can this condition be seen with an ultrasound? good luck to you. you will be in my prayers.

Ask you doctor if you can try AZO or uristat, they are sold over the counter. The medicines take the acidity out of your urine and thus quite a bit of the pain. My doctor told me to use as needed and I used them for the first 5 or 6 months post op. You will know on the first dose if it works for you, as soon as your urine turns orange. Good healing wishes and remember to still rest. Hugs.

Dear bladder woes

I, too, had bladder pain after urinating at 4-5 weeks. It seems the empty bladder was pulling on the cervical stitches as soon as I "finished." They tested for infection and there was none. The doc said it would spontaneously heal as the stitches healed sand at 6 weeks it did - no more pain. Chin up.

Maybe I've found someone who can relate to my problem. 12 days ago, I had a TVT-O Sling procedure with anterior & posterior repair. 4 or 5 days ago, I started feeling a little seepage, like bubbles, not much. This happens after I urinate and at other times when walking & sitting. Do you think it's too late for any adjustment to my sling?? Any reply would be so greatly appreciated!
