Stress Levels high...

With only six days to go until surgery day, the stress levels in my home are HIGH. The day before yesterday, my 16 year old son accidently overdosed on an over the counter medication. (a drug used by teens to get high and I didn't know he was abusing) We spent 6 hours in the ER praying for him to live. We don't know if there is any permanent damage, as it will take some time for all the effects of the drug to wear off. In the meantime, I've pulled him out of school and started homeschooling him. My girls are doing fine in school but are very nervous about my upcoming surgery. One has begged "not" to come to the hospital as she becomes ill at the smell of hospitals. (laughing) I told her it was fine that she didn't have to come there. My oldest son is planning on flying in on Thursday after my surgery with his new wife and baby. I have never met my daughter in law or grand daughter, but will....the day AFTER my surgery! So now I'm not only getting my house ready for my recovery, but also preparing it for guests! Luckily for me, my darling hubby will be home the entire time and I won't even have to lift a finger. (whew)
Ok...I'm done venting. I'll post more Monday after my pre-op visit with my surgeon and the hospital.

Hugs!
Carla

Carla,
Yes, that is a stressful lead up to surgery! Thank God your son is okay and we will pray there is no permanent damage, that had to be terrifying. I also had the 'guest' thing before and after surgery - people came out of the woodwork to visit when they found out - which was great but very stressful and tiring - your husband sounds like a jewel, as is mine and I never lifted a finger - just let him do and as for your daughter, well, I'm assuming she is a teen! haha Best of luck and will keep you our prayers. May your surgery and recovery be quick and uneventful.

I'm over 3 months post op now. I look back and think about how it wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed having my daughter and granddaughter come visit me. Seeing your new grandchild will make things alot sweeter. Good luck to you and congratulations on your new addition to the family.

Oh Carla, I am so sorry for all the stress in your family right now! I hope your son recovers quickly, and that as a family you can help him with his needs. Please do no exhaust yourself before surgery, let the house be, and I am sure your son, new daughter in law (and baby) are not coming to judge the state of your house! The most important thing is that you are well going into surgery.
Mental stress (like worrying about your son) can exhaust you too.
Please keep us all updated and I wish you a safe and easy castle day, and a good recovery. May God bless you and your family, during this difficult time.

You sure have a full plate right now.

I wish you all the best with your son. He's having a hard time right now, and maybe it will be good for him to be home with you during your recovery period. You two will get some good bonding in while you homeschool him, too.

Just do what you can and don't worry about what doesn't get done. Your ds and his wife can help spiff up your house while you're in the . Let them help!

Thanks for all the support!

Thanks so much for all the supportive posts. All is going much better today. I withdrew my son from school, got him enrolled in homeschool. We went to lunch together, and I got his hair cut. (whew...he needed that) He's already acting like the boy I remember from about a year ago when he started changing. I guess now, hindsite is 20/20...that is when he started doing drugs. I feel like such a bad mother! But I know I am a lucky mother, because we saved him before he totally lost his life.

Thanks again!

I have no kids so I'm far from the authority here, but please don't blame yourself. I know someone close to me that had "issues" growing up and his mother is close to being a saint as far as I'm concerned. He is now a healthy, happy adult (close to 45).. has long since found new ways to get "high" without drugs or getting into trouble. It was because his mother was always there for him, no matter what, that turned him around. You sound like THAT kind of mother.

Thank you. My oldest son went down the wrong path at this age as well. He is awesome now! he's only 23, but he had one bad scare...and POOF, he changed. I am hoping its the same with this one. So far so good. He's hugging me for the first time in a year and he's smiling at my lame jokes. (asking him to laugh would be too much) haha. So, I think we're making headway. All I can do is keep doing what I do, and hope that it makes a difference. He seems to be accepting the new RULES with a grain of salt.

Thanks so much for your post. It makes today a little easier.

Hugs!
Carla
