"Morning after" discharge w/ REPLENS ..."sloughing" or yeast?
Good afternoon sisters!
I have been using Replens to combat vaginal dryness and atrophy. Absolutely no HRT. Have been applying (inserting) every 2 to 3 days at bedtime.
I have noticed that every "morning after" I have an unusual looking discharge on my panty liner. It's really clumpy yet resembles a yeast infection. And there's LOTS of it! Usually all in one small area, about the size of a quarter, as if it just leaked out all at once or something. YUK!
Question? ... Could this be the sloughing off of dead vaginal skin cells, as the insert suggests could happen initially? I've had my fair share of yeast infections but I've never seen yeast quite like that! On the "morning after" when I DON'T use the replens, I don't see the weird clumping. I've also dosed with 3 diflucan tabs in the past 6 weeks. No change.
If this IS the sloughing off of vaginal skin cells, then HOW LONG on average does it take to build healthy skin and not have this sloughing and clumping? I realize everyone is different and it depends on just how badly in need of moisture you are, but...
Has anyone else had this? How long did the weird discharge last for you?
Thanks,
Teresa

It must be the Replens, because I had this happen, and when I quit using it, no more problem. I thought it was just me.
I have no idea why this happens. Maybe others will offer some input about this as well.
I use perscription vaginal cream now and have been pleased. I like it because it does not get into the body's system, but is used just in the area needed.

Thanks, Suzy for your fast response! I was wondering if it was just me as well.
How long did you try the Replens? If I knew it would only take a month or two to get healthy vaginal tissues, then I'd wait it out. But the thoughts of 6 months or a year (or forever) just turns me off to using it.
Do you mind if I ask which prescription vaginal cream you are using that is NOT systemic?
I did try vagifem tablets for about a month. It caused cramping and a brownish discharge, for me, and I must be super-sensitive because I still felt a systemic effect with the vagifem. Tightness in chest, increased hot flashes, etc, etc. Same effects I felt with estrogen therapy only less intense. It would be great to "try" something else.
Thanks again, Teresa

I used Replens for about 2 weeks. I am wondering if it builds up in there and this is the body's way of getting rid of it? It might be worth trying to use less and see if there is a difference.
I use Estrace vaginal cream (estradiol). I use just a dab, because a lot can be wasted and will come out if too much. If you are sensitive you may want to locate a dr who will work with compounding pharmacy and make up a cream for you. Estriol is an estrogen that is not as strong as estradiol and is only made in a compounding pharmacy. I have heard some ladies have had success with it.
