My surgery was cancelled today due to being sick

Hi Sisters,

I went to the castle at 8 am. After 3 hours of back and forth...long story...they at the last minute canceled my surgery due to a cold. My gyne recommended I go to my family doc. I went directly over to his office and he seen me. I was running a slight fever and have acute bronchitis. So now my new surgery date is 9/25. JUst my luck. I have not had a cold in 2 yrs...and now last night I get this..the night before surgery. My luck.

My gyne said she didn't feel safe putting me under anthesesia due to the cold..and boy am I glad she was smart after my family doc said acute bronchitis. They were at first going to do it spinal tap with twilight sleep and I did agree, but then she just didn't want to risk surgery me being sick.

So now I wait another 2.5 weeks again More worry and fret time lol. Although, I was as cool as a cucumber this morning. Everyone made me feel so good. It helped ease me.

Thanks for letting me vent here a bit. I am sad and frustrated I couldn't get it done and over, but I know if I'm sick with this it was smart in the end for her to cancel. She was more so cautious cause I have asthma too.

Thank you for posting your news. I've been thinking of you a lot and wondering what the outcome would be for you, given your posts yesterday. It sounds as if you are handling the disappointment well, given that you understand that they have your best interests in mind. I hope you get well really soon, and I'm sorry you are having to wait this way, but it sounds as if it's for the best -- your best, most especially.

Hi Blue,

You're right. It was for the best. My having asthma and this acute bronchitis wouldn't be a good mixture with the anthestesia.

I am handling it ok. I was surprised though how cool and calm I was going in this morning. I know that when the 25th comes around, I will also be calm. I just want it over at this point.

thanks for your quick reply. I guess i'd better go now and change my surger date above huh? lol...don't want to confuse anyone.

Hi mjd,
Thanks for the kind words. I will push the juice. I find OJ is the best. My Doc is the best. She was so kind and held my hand up in the OR as she was telling me it was best to cancel since I have asthma..and that and bronchitis isn't a good mixture with anesthesia.

Have a good evening
Hugs

Angel -

I have been thinking about you all day. I know you're disappointed but let me tell you from someone who had a very minor cough, it hurts like nothing else with an abdominal cut! The first 2 times I coughed (I only coughed like 12 times in 3 days but in part that was to major control on my part) my stitches seeped blood enough to have to change me. Nurse wasn't concerned but it scared me.

Today is the first time coughing isn't so painful.

I'll be thinking of you on the 25th.

SCREECH! I have wondered how it went for you. I'm 19 days out and also woke up with a sore throat this a.m. I am doubling up my vitamins and going to add some V-C for good measure.

Hi Julie & Gordonk,

Julie, I'm sorry you went through a cough as that. I bet that was awful having an incision and coughing..ouch!!! I am glad you're doing better. Thanks for your support. I was disapointed, but I am glad I have a doc that didn't want to rush to do this with me sick. Hugs

Gordonk, I'm sorry you're starting this sore throat too. It seems it starts with that. I got one last evening and by 2 am I was coughing and runny nose. I knew at that point they may send me home. You're doing the right thing doubling on the vitamins. Drink OJ, it's good too. You and I now have the same surgery date. I'll be thinking of you. Hugs to you too.

So sorry that your surgery was cancelled.i know it must have been hard to have to go through that thinking you were close to getting it over with. I hope you feel better soon. I hope that the morning of my surgery I feel calm and not so nervous as I have been feeling this past week or so since finding out about the surgery.

Thanks Kacinfl,

I am sooo glad today she did cancel. By last evening I was running a fever and felt horrible in my chest. My family doc has me on 4 meds to knock this out of me so I can do this on 9/25.

I can't imagine had they done the surgery yesterday and by evening getting this sick with this cold/bronchitis...on top of surgery..yikes..not good lol.

Thanks, and I wish you luck in your surgery.

Hugs
