Weight Loss/Struggle Support Group . . . any interest?

I am 3-weeks post op today and need to get serious about losing some pounds and start feeling better about myself in general. Going into surgery I had 50+ pounds to lose and even after having 7-lbs of excess baggage removed during my TAH, I still have 50+ pounds to lose and fear that number is creeping up daily. I have been surfing the web for several days trying to find an active (operative word here) support board where individuals have similar needs and situations such as mine. I haven’t had any luck in this area when it dawned on me that based on previous threads there might be some Sisters here interested in forming an online HysterSister support group. We could encourage each other in the our eating program of choice, offer coaching assistance on moving and shaking these achy and swelly bellies, downing that much needed water, attempting to understand whether HRT or the lack of might be causing weight gain, etc. The list is endless, and maybe we could even get some harmless challenges started.

For the record, I do realize many of us still have restrictions when it comes to exercise but walking could be (and should be) gradually incorporated into our day.

Due to the nature of this topic this will obviously at some point need to be moved elsewhere. Possibly, to either the General discussion board or maybe even the Support board. I have browsed other weight loss threads here at HysterSisters but they don’t seem to be frequented very often. So, my intent is to inquire of interest and then we can move the group if warranted to a new home and set up housekeeping.

Any takers?

Yeah, I've told my girlfriend that she and I are going to join weight watchers next week and begin walking together. This week she is in the process of grieving for her father, we're not procrastinating. Plus, I'm hopeful that with the 1 month mark next week, I'll be able to walk for more than a few minutes without the incredible pressure.

I'd enjoy having to be accountable in 2 places, maybe I'd behave myself better???

Hi,

I think its a great idea too. But I don't know about you I was advised by my GYN no exercise until 6 weeks post op. No power walking... leisurely walks are ok and reccommended but NO "EXERCISE".

I lost about 20 lbs thru my ordeal and would like to keep going too but I have at least three more weeks to heal before I even consider adding low impact exercise. Right now I am being smart about my food choices and controlling my portions!

I look forward to seeing if there will be a new support forum based on your suggestion!

Trish.

Looking for support too!

I'm very interested...i'm gonna bookmark this post so i can check periodically. Let me know if we're going anywhere or staying here.

I need to loose about the same 50 lbs. I had lost 16 after surgery due to 8 lb uterus and staph infection which had me in a fever and lots of liquads due the strong antibiotics i was taking. Then i felt better starting eating normal and gained the 16 pounds back. I HATE IT AND MYSELF FOR NOT BEING MORE DISCIPLINE BUT AFTER FIGHTING A STAPH INFECTION FOR 4 DAYS I just wanted to eat normal foods.

Now i regret my choices. I need support and am willing to provide to anyone that needs it.

Blessings to all!!!!!

This is a great idea.
I went back to Weight Watchers 4 weeks post-op and have lost 6lbs. But still have the times That I fall off the wagon, when I'm tired and stressed. It is an on going battle. Would be nice to have some of our sisters there for support.

If you check out the "forums" listed under the general forums link, you'll see that there seems to be something near what you are suggesting already here. Go to "forums," scroll waaaay down the line, and you'll see something like "Hysteritaville -- Wellness Post Hysterectomy." There are two subgroups, and there are subcategories under that. Maybe what you're looking for is something that others have created, for similar reasons. Best wishes to you. Nice to feel on the upswing sufficiently to think about the future!

I moved your discussion to our "BEST" (Better Eaters Support Team) forum because this is a regular, daily group of HysterSisters who support each other for exercise and eating better. What you are looking for...is here. And its not visited infrequently.

This is a busy place. Enjoy!

Note: I was in the process of posting the below when I received notification we were moved. So some comments are null and void since we have already been moved. Hopefully, those with interest will find us . . .

What a pleasant surprise to see there is interest and hopefully there will be even more!

As indicated in another post (Blueron), there is no need to reinvent the wheel since there are boards already established. My concern was they are not in high traffic areas and might frequently be overlooked.

I don’t envision any particular eating plan being promoted just to each his own approach. Glad to see there are some WWers onboard. I am contemplating whether to rejoin or attempt their plan on my own. From being previous member (several times) I certainly have all the necessary tools. I just need the accountability whether it is online support or weekly meetings or maybe even both.

I certainly understand the exercise limitation and was not suggesting power walks but just walking. I know I have gotten VERY complacent over the last few weeks. I have worn a pedometer since week one of my recovery and have set goals of upping my steps everyday. Not a lot to write home about but I am now up to 1000 steps most days and this is just walking around the house and minimally outside. I am in a very hilly area so outside walking is not much of an option for me at this stage of my recovery but I do plan on driving to the park next week and taking advantage of their walking paths. Again, not power walks but walking . . . movement.

Glad to hear some of you Sisters are actually losing weight post op. I sure had high hopes but stepped on the scales this morning and much to my dismay I have gained but I am going to use today’s weight as a gauge and hopefully will start seeing that number going downward sooner rather than later.

More later!

Hi pbaus! Welcome to B.E.S.T.

I was an avid walker before my surgery and with my doctor's blessings, continued it even at the hospital recovering. I didn't walk nearly as long or as hard, but I did continue my walks. I just celebrated my anniversary of walking for 12 years strait, without missing a day.
Sometimes I walk 1 miles, sometimes 3, but never less than 1.

Check out all the different areas here in Hysteritaville. Or feel free to join in on the daily thread. We post to help keep ourselves accountable. It's a good way to see what's working for others.

to the group!!
