5 years post op...ovarian cyst?

I am 5 years post op, almost to the day. I had my TVH on September 18, 2001. I kept my ovaries because, at 36, my doc thought I was too young to lose them. My maternal grandmother had ovarian cancer. I had the hyst due to a cone biopsy for abnormal pap that caused my cervix to scar shut.

Anyway...I went last week for my annual exam. I am usually religious about going but this year it had been just over 18 months since my last pelvic and pap...not too bad. I saw a new doc from the same practive that did my hyst. She did my pelvic exam and asked if I had pain. I said no. She said, your ovaries feel firm, I want to get an ultrasound. She wrote pelvic mass on the order for the US.

I had the US today and I have a 10 cm mass on my left ovary! US tech said probably a cyst and I saw she labeled it cyst on the US. She also said I had a couple of small cysts on the right ovary and possible fluid in my right tube.

Is it common to have a cyst like that after a hyst? Is 10 cm large? I have no symptoms other than an occasional bloated feeling but figured I had eaten too much dinner

I have read that sometimes they treat cysts with BC pills. I can't take any hormones because of a prior blood clot and a clotting disorder. I hate to think I will have to have surgery to remove the cyst...they should have taken my ovaries when I had my cyst.

Can anyone give me any advice, insight, encouragement, chocolate???

Sorry but I think you'll have to have surgery. I think anything over 5 cm they have to do surgery to remove them. I had a 17 cm cyst they thought was attached to my ovary but it turned out to be a choc cyst attached to my colon from endo. Best of luck to ya !!!

BAH! That is not the answer I was hoping for, but after doing some reading on the internet last night it looks like you could be correct.

What are the odds that a 10cm cyst could resolve on its own?

The odds are very unikely that the cyst will dissolve on its own. Are they gonna do a CT Scan also?

I am not sure if they will be doing a CT scan or not. I had the US on Friday afternoon so have not heard from my doc yet. I will probably call her Tuesday afternoon if I do not hear from them tomorrow.
