Scared~ thick lining, don't know where to post?

Hi sisters,
I just went to my doctors to follow up on my u/s I had done a week ago. He said, it had a very thick lining, and he did a procedure to do a biopsy right there in the office. Biopsy usually means they are checking for cancer, doesn't it? I asked him, and he said, it could be precancerous cells or it may be something to do hormonally? I wasn't sure where to post this kind of question, but I do know it has me worried. I was wondering, if anyone else had an ultrasound like this? My uterus is the size of a 10 week pregnancy, and he said my ovaries looked ok.

Thank you, I have a week to wait for results. :::::::sigh::::::::

Hi Mitzi- My lining was also very thick (19mm) but I was spotting for several months. The doctor thought it was part of menopause I finally insisted on further testing (long story) and a biopsy was done that showed I had endrometrial cancer.
Try not to worry, like your doctor told you there are other things that can cause a thickening of the lining.
Even worse case scenerio if it is endo cancer, it is usually caught very early and sometimes the only treatment needed is a hysterectomy-which you are already scheduled for.
I know the waiting for results stinks!!! I hope you get good news and that it is nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks for sharing kjay,

I hope you are feeling better now too. Is that all the treatment you needed then? I know the waiting and anticipation for answers is the hardest part. That's why I went ahead with it all right there at his office, and didn't wait.

I had a thick lining too but it ended up being adenomyosis which they didn't find out until I actually had the hysterectomy. Lots of women get a biopsy of the endometrium lining for lots of reasons. Try not to worry. Easier said than done, that's for sure!

You were smart to get the biospsy done right away! Besides the hyster I had internal radiation (brachy therapy) because I am stage 2b.

I think in this situation, they do a biopsy to make sure it is not uterine/endometrial cancer. I think if there is cancer, it makes a difference on the type of procedure that is done.

Now, if it turns out to be cancer, please have a consult with a gyn/onc. They have the training to know what to look for during surgery.

I also had the biopsy and procedure you are mentioning. My doctor said my uterus is enlarged like I am 6 mos pregnant, and it is attached to my abdominal wall from adhesions (3 c-sections)....sigh...The MRI and Ultrasound showed I had rather large fibroids. Anyhow, they did the biopsy and there was no cancer, so DONT worry yet! It is really hard when you are in pain, not feeling well, and they are poking and prodding, but they are doing all this to help us. Keep us posted on how it ends up!
