Exercise after SAH/BSO

Had my surgery Aug 21. Right now I feel great, some slight twinges, but nothing really painful. I want to start doing some more strenuous activity. My doc said to do what I felt like doing, but everyone keeps yelling at me to NOT do anything more active than walk around. I'm going stir crazy, I really want to go ride my horse or swim..... Anyone start activites this early? Did you have a set-back or did ot go OK?

Exercise after SAH/BSO

Going back to work was all I could manage...... and that was from the 8-16 week mark.

Swimming sounds nice.....but, no high diving, I would think. And, horseback riding sounds like a swelly belly waiting to happen!!!

Your body is the best indicator..........it will let you know just how much is too much. Take care..........s....Deb

Exercise after SAH/BSO

I've probably been more cautious than necessary, but according to everything I've read here and elsewhere it seems like a good idea to me to take it easy as long as possible to encourage proper healing. Before surgery I was doing a 30 minute aerobics routine 3-5 times a week and strength training 2-3 times a week, along with working a 9-12 hour work-day and driving one-hour each way to work 5-6 days a week. Maybe I was just really ready to take a break!! Unfortunately any problems from overdoing it during recovery may not be evident until later.

I eased back into an easy stretching routine at about 4 weeks post-op, mostly working upper body. I've also been walking at least 2 miles a day. No aerobics yet, but I feel almost ready for that now that I'm close to 7 weeks post-op. I still have a low energy level that's more obvious now that I've returned to work

I would just echo the advice from the other Ladies here and "listen" to your body. You will know what's best for you and when you've done enough!

Take Care!!

Exercise after SAH/BSO

I had a SAH. My gyn said nothing that makes me sweat for 4 weeks. I walked everyday but if I walked too fast, the swelly belly waved its ugly flag. I got nowhere near sweat. I'm at 6 weeks and just today walked my first 20 minute mile. Still not sweating, but progress. Just be careful to not over do it.

HI Shadowbok
I too had SAH, and really didn't do much of anything besides walking for at least 10 weeks.
Horseback riding sounds like way too much "jarring" and "bouncing" and many of the posts I've seen on here say that we are not cleared for swimming until we are cleared for sex. Don't want to get any type of infection up inside there.
I'm glad you are feeling really good, but I'd probably err on the side of caution and wait a few more weeks and see if you still feel so good. I had many times of ups and downs, and going back to work at 10 weeks nearly wiped me out.
Remember we only have this one chance to heal properly, so try not to rush things.
HUGS

I sweat all night long in bed, does that mean I shouldn't sleep I can't wait until I'm allowed to get HRT so I can stop sweating

Seriosly, thanks for the input! I think walking up the hills last night made me swell a bit, so maybe I won't ride (which doesn't make me sweat, but sure can be bouncy, unless I just walk, but you never know what the horse might decide to do......I figure falling off right now would be a bad thing......)

Yeah, I'd hold off on the bouncy right now. Your insides have been jiggled and traumatized enough and might not yet be ready. I think it's better to be a little cautious. If you do too much too soon, the consequences are too great. Why risk damage that will only slow you down for much longer? LOL on your sleep comment! Glad to see you have a good sense of humor through these trying times.
