Vaginal pain during intercourse

Hello sisters,

I suspect I would probably find info in the hormone jungle (and have tried) but am hoping one of you can direct me to a good link. The last time I had intercourse before my TAH/BSO/cervix removal I had experienced vaginal pain. It was as if hubby was lined with sandpaper. We were using lubricants. I was 10 months out from my last period when this happened so assumed it was due to vaginal dryness related to pre-menopause.

Obviously, I was concerned about our first encounter after the hysterectomy. I had read on this site to use plenty of lubrication (which we did) and had not problem related to the surgery, but the vaginal pain was still there. Does this pain describe the pain anyone else has experienced and have they had a diagnosis?

I do plan on taking it up with the doctor if I see no improvement.

Any suggestions girls?

Becky

Simple suggestion

This can't hurt, at least.

Try an unscented bath soap that's made for sensitive skin; ordinary soaps can be remarkably harsh. If you've tried a new lotion, laundry detergent, or anything else, that might be the culprit.

i dont know about the other lady but i use only soaps detergents etc..that have no dyes perfumes or anything irritating. I am prone to uti and yeast so i have to be extra careful and it still doesnt help the sand paper feeling

I also use soap for sensitive skin and use no lotions in the vaginal area. The pain is inside the vagina and not the vulva.

Thanks for the suggestion Jessie.

Oh, I can so relate to that sort of pain. And, I'm sorry you're experiencing it! You may want to try different brands of lubricants....I like Astroglide best. Also, you may have vestibulitis. There is a very good website: www.nva.org with lots of info. If you do have this, there are ways to control it, and even surgery, if appropriate. Best wishes.

I know you stated that you had this pain before surgery, and now pain after surgery. I did not have the pain before surgery, but afterwards I did. And you're right....it felt like sandpaper. I also had a bacterial infection to go along with it. When the Dr checked me, I had granulation. He put silver nitrate on it and after several weeks, it healed right up. The sandpaper feeling is gone. But I'm having constant bacterial infections, which according to Dr and hystersisters could be caused by low estrogen levels in the vaginal walls. So....now I'm working on that problem.
Check with your doctor about granulation. If thats not it, use soap for sensitive skin. Anyway, hope you get better very soon. Take care.

I did spend some time researching this on the internet and came across a condition called dyspareunia. It sounds like it fits the bill. I am going to try estrogen cream and astroglide (as others suggested) and see if that makes a difference. Kristie, check out this website http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relat...ntercourse.htm

In the meantime I will do more research on vestibulitis and granulation.....thanks girls!!!

Can someone explain what "granulation" is? I've seen the term on here and can't quite figure it out other than to relieve it needs some sort of internal cauterization?????!!!!!!!!
