Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I have my post op appt with my Dr. this Friday, and will ask him too, but I've been experiencing hot flashes since my surgery and i'm confused because I thought since I kept my ovaries I wouldn't have this problem. Has anyone else gone through this? Is this normal?

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I had surgery back in March and keep both ovaries. I am now on a hormone patch. I was having hot flashes, night sweats, depression and ect. I finally called my dr and told them what was going on. I had hormone level test. It came back low but normal. I have been on the patch for about a month. I feel and act (ask my family) so much better. You do need to talk with your dr if it is bothering you.

As your ovaries can go into shock, you can experience menopause symptoms for a bit. Mine lasted for several months.

You are still really early post op but if your symptoms last, you can talk to your dr about your options.

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

Tomorrow will be my 6 week mark and I haven't had any sweaty nights for about 5 days... The Dr. told me that it would take a few weeks for the ovaries to wake up and realize they still have to do some work! I have the moodiness that I guess still relates to my "cycle". I have noticed some times are better than others! LOL!! Hope yours gets better soon!!

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I am too. They started while I was still in the hospital. Dr said, removing uterus removes 50% of the blood supply to the ovaries (she had indicated by blood source route the other 50% but it didn't stick. This, she said, what throws our ovaries into shock. She told me they would minimize over they next couple of weeks.

That being said, I find they are worse now than on the 3rd when I asked her. My appointment is sometime early next week an I am going to ask her then 'when I need to be concerned'.

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

Thanks everyone, it's nice to know I'm not alone. I guess the mood swings and crying at commercials has something to do with all of this too. I can't wait for DH to get home with the kids so I will have something other than Liftime TV to do. Going stir crazy already. I'm hoping Doc will let me go back to work on Monday. My job is not a physical one, and I really miss having something productive to do, even if it's just catching up on reports that aren't being worked on while I'm out. Thanks for all the help. I will have to send my nurse that referred me to the site a Thank You card.

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I'm having night sweats and hot flashes, but the hot flashes only occurr in the evenings! I talked with my Dr. today and she has ordered hormone tests to see what is happening. I'm not a candidate for HRT due to history of blood clots. Dr. said exercise and soy and a change in diet would be helpful. I'm doing my research, but still hoping that my ovaries are just "sleeping".

Good luck!

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I kept my ovaries but had hot flashes for a couple weeks or so. Night sweats for a month or so. They are both gone now at almost 3 months. Still moody and depressed but I think that may just be my difficulty in dealing with the surgery emotionally.

Hot Flashes with Ovaries?!?!?

I went back in for checkup at 5 weeks and as an after thought I mentioned that I hadn't been sleeping and I was having night sweats. He checked my levels and, apparently, my ovaries had gone into shock. My level was WAY above post menopause so I went on the patch. Been on it for a little over a month and it appears to be working well. I asked it they might start working again and they doubted it, given how high my levels were. Vivelle patch is working for me !!
