I'll try to be delicate about this but I am sincere...too embarrassed to ask my doc. I know that for intercourse that I should wait 6 weeks and get cleared by my doctor. Does this apply to masturbation as well? I understand that nothing should be inserted until I'm cleared by the doc that it's okay.

We have a Post Op Sex Checkpoints that may offer some helpful insights for you. However, you should ask your dr before any sexual activity. Some drs say no to any and all activity, including outercourse. Find out what is okay for you! And as a GYN, I doubt you are the first, and you won't be the last, to ask!

It seems a cruel joke of nature that, shortly after surgery, many of us experience a huge surge in labido. My understanding is that as long as nothing is inserted, have at it! Rest assured, the six weeks will eventually be up and then - look out! ; )

Good question! I think it's really best to get an answer from a doctor. But I read in the book "Essential Guide to Hysterectomy" that outercourse is probably okay after a couple of weeks. The Dr./Author says it's possible the increased blood flow from the activity might even help with healing... At about 4 weeks post-op I was very curious... and made my own decision without asking my doctor.

I made my own decision as well. I kept having some feelings and to be honest, I wanted to see if everything was still working and how/if it felt different. I figured it would be easy for me to stop if anything hurt. I had been pretty scared about this issue after reading some of the stories....turned out everything works great and is pretty much the same as before....what a relief...one less thing to worry about!

Rockin that is a relief...that honestly is a concern of mine as well!

Outercourse? Oh I learned a new word... lol I feel a little silly now!

I will check out the sex points and I guess if I feel I must do something, I'll at least call his PA and maybe SHE will ask for me LOL

I'm really not a shy person but it seems like I should be focusing on healing and not fretting over this. My doc is really great though so the problem in asking lies solely with me.
