Need Ideas

I need any ideas or suggestions that will be helpful during recovery time. I am truly blessed to have family to help me but don't want to be a major pain either. I want to know I can do now to make things easier on everyone after the surgery. I have froze 1 dinner but not sure of other thing that I could make ahead of time and put in the freezer? My surgery is in less than 2 weeks and I am starting to get worried. I am afraid everyone will fall apart in my family if I do not get things in order.

Need Ideas

Hi, start of by taking a nice deep breath and try to relax a little. It's nice that you want to make things as easy as psooible for your family. I know that as a care giver, it's hard for me to be the receiver instead too
In addition to cooking a few meals ahead and freezing them, I stocked the pantry and freezer with some easy to heat and heat foods and juices. There are soooo many choices now and lots of them are pretty good. My family likes frozen pizza, pancakes, waffles, mac & cheese etc. I bought puddings, jello, fruit cups, lots of easy things. When friends or family asked what they could do to help, I asked for food. We had a nice variety, it was great!

Click here for a great list of Pre-op Articles. There's a lot of helpful info and hints there.

If you visit the Hystersisters Cookbook, you can find recipes that are great.

Best wishes.

Need Ideas

I prepared a few things for the freezer before my surgery also. I am 5 days post-op and have not had to use any of my own meals yet. Tonight will be the first night someone is not bringing in a meal but we have enough left in the fridge for the next two days. Three other friends/church members will be bringing in meals this week too. I hope you get that kind of support -- it has been wonderful. I'm sure as am further into recovery, the brought in meals will stop and then I'll just go to my freezer. Lasagna, meat balls, diced chicken, cooked beef and pork that has shredded and soup are some of the things I prepared for my family. All very simple but things they like. I don't know what kind of help you can expect from your family, but my kids are old enough to be self-sufficient for awhile. Just don't work yourself into a frenzy before hand. You don't want to go into surgery exhausted.

my bday is your hysterectomy!!

Nicole,

Your hysterectomy is on my birthday!
I am feeling for you.
I had a hysterectomy June 1st of last year ( my wedding day 5yrs ago..it was weird).
My advice to you is REST REST and REST.
The more you rest the quicker you will recover.
If you have any questions at all please ask.

Jessica
