Strep throat!
Surgery is Tuesday and I just found out that one of my kids has strep throat. RRRRGGGGG. I called my PCP and she gave me an antibiotic just in case. I don't want this surgery postponed or cancelled. I want to get this done and over with. So, I'm on an antibiotic and taking my probiotics. I'm taking supplemental iron because the dr. wants me to. I have my RX for Atavan that the anesthesiologist gave me for the morning of surgery. I'm starting to feel like a regular pill-popper.
Anyone get sick the week before their surgery? Was it cancelled? Should I be worried?
Oh, too much for my little brain to think about!

Strep throat!
PAM !!! I am in a similar crisis though you are closer to your date at the castle. Everyone in my office has head colds/sunusitis/etc. I woke up congested yesterday and feel miserable today. I called my primary doc to see if I could get a script for URI/sinusitis today so that it doesn't end up full blown causing me to postpone.
Let's both keep our fingers that we are well and don't get pushed back any! If you're like me, I keep saying "I've come this close let's not have it stopped now!!!"

Strep throat!
I called my surgeon yesterday in my panic and the receptionist said it is actually the anesthiologist who will cancel the surgery if there is a need. So, I could conceivably go through my 2 day bowel prep with no solid food and then find out on tuesday that there will be no surgery. I will have to hurt someone if that happens. I'll have 4 1/2 days of antibiotics in me, so there hopefully won't be an issue.
I'll be for good health for all of us since cold/flu season is getting here!

Strep throat!
I just started a 3-day dose of antibiotics. Just swallowed the first one. I sure hope that everything settles down and am glad I've got 10 days to get cleared up.
Keep me posted on your improvement. I would be homicidal after bowel prep to learn I was cancelled!

Strep throat!
I went to the dr this week for feelings of a head cold coming on. She gave me some nasal spray, told me to take motrin and tylenol for headach and some cough med for sore throat and cough. She also gave me a script for antiboitics in case it gets worse of I still feel this way 10 days out from my surgery. This is a bad time of year to have to deal with so I wanted to be proactive. BTW what is a probiotic? Does everyone take those before surgery?

Strep throat!
Probiotic? Haven't heard of it. My preop is Monday so will post a reply afterwards.
I think the antibiotics my doc gave me was because I am just 10 days out. I'm miserable right now and have been up since 3 a.m. I think the decongestant is kicking in because my nose is getting close to the drippy stage (funny, with a prolapsed bladder drippy is something I usually think about on the other end of the torso!). I hope to get to bed soon.

Strep throat!
Probiotics are the good bacteria that occur naturally in your intestines. Antibiotics aren't picky and will kill everything so the good stuff must be replaced. If not, yeast can get a foothold and that is never a fun thing. Since both DS and I are on antibiotics, we are both taking acidopholus (sp) to hopefully avoid thrush. When either of us have to take antibiotics for something, I usually have us both on probiotics for at least a month after. With the surgery and everything, I'll probably keep us both on the probiotics for a couple months after. I'm so very afraid of thrush.
The only reason I started my probiotics before surgery was because of this stupid strep and the need for antibiotics beforehand.
I sure hope you ladies are feeling better before your surgery. I think I may call the hospital and try to talk to an anesthelogist today and see what would make them cancel surgery. I surely don't want to do two days of bowel prep just to have it cancelled. I agree, I might be homicidal!!!!
