On the shopping list....

Please add if there are things I don't have so I am ready! You all are just awesome and my God to feel like you're not alone is just so......I can't find a word to describe it......

Okay, surgery is LAVH, A/P repair, and bladder lift.
So far I already have:
Donut pillow for car ride home and for recliner
Dulcolax
Metamucil tabs
Panty liners
Heating pad and microwaveable herb packets for owie spots
Ice packs---hey you never know which will feel better!
Light foods like rices, pudding, jello, eggs (had a very tough time eating last year with the nausea)

On my list is:
GasX
Prune Juice
Bran Muffins

Any other things you would say "don't do your hyster without......"? Ideas ladies, ideas!

2. my own slippers

On the shopping list....

In my hospital they gave us a plastic mug with a lid and a straw for putting ice water in. When I left the nurse said to take it home. I was really glad I did, as I used it forever for drinking lots of water. The lid and plastic straw made it easier to drink while laying on the couch. I found it really useful!

On the shopping list....

I lived on Peppermint tea the first week for gas (yep on top of gas-x). The other thing I have found 'priceless' is 4 additional pillows with firm foam cores. They're great for propping up with during the day, laying beside me to help get out of bed and they are firm enough to use as a support across my belly for reading/eating in bed.

Things I Could Not DO Without

At home Items:
1. Hospital bed table (bought cheap and new off Ebay)
Holds laptop, drink, phone cards, meds, keeps me in bed
2. Raised toilet seat
3. Moved everything to top shelves and drawers

Hospital Must Haves:
1. Bag with essentials clipped to my hospital bed
2. Altoids (for sore throat/dry mouth)
3. Airborne Gummi Lozenges( to combat germs, easier to get down than the foaming Airborne)
4. Hand Sanitizer that moisturizes
5. Favorite Scented Moisturizer
6. Herbal Garden Pillow Spray (Zzzzz formula)
7. Smooth Move Tea bags(no constipation)
8. Cranberry Juice mini packs
9. Tabloid Mags (unable to really read/focus, these are mindless and perfect)
10.pen and paper handy
Those were helpfull for me, and I highly recommend!
I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery!

On the shopping list....

If you have one, bring along an iPod or other mp3 player loaded with soft, relaxing music to listen to when you're bedridden. It's wonderful. In the hospital I kept mine hidden in the pocket in the front of the gown and took it with me on walks, etc.

On the shopping list....

Gracefull I have looked at those seats and really wondered if they were worth getting. If I come home with cath we probably we get one but without it, hubby already has it on his "run out and get...." list. Most of the other things you mentioned I also have ready to go but I have lavender linen spray. So nice and relaxing compared to the overbleached hospital smell and I am bringing my pillow from home too!! I dont' have time to get one of those tables but we have moved things around like we did before last years surgery so I should be okay with access to stuff.

Chi Lupi i packed my CD player with some really beautiful cds. Great idea.

I just did a trip to the store and picked up a few things like the prune juice and GasX (did you know it comes in those little strips now? Very handy and cool!),

Thanks ladies! Keep em coming!

The Must Haves...

Yes, Gordonk, the Zzzzzz spray is very nice, and does facilitate "institutional sleep" lol...I got mine at Walgreens, very cheap and they have the entire Herbal Garden Zzzzzz line of products. The Zzzzz pilow spray is in a very small bottle, convenient for travel.
As for the toilet seat, sister send your hubby out for it! It is WUNDERFUL! Get the one that is 6" at least and requires no tools for installation. Mine screws on and has handles (very helpful, no straining).
I am happy to help in any way! I am on the other side now and am feeling good--I beleive my preparation contributed greatly. I am doing this solo--no one at home but my cat, and he is sweet, but not a big help! Preparation is good for your mind, spirit and body!
Take care all :-)
