Anemia and Iron Pills
I'm taking iron pills called Ferrous-sequel, but it causes mild constipation. I'm also taking Colace, but sometimes it works and other times, not.
For those of you who have anemia, what iron pills are you taking and/or do you know of how to remedy the situation so as not to promote constipation?

Anemia and Iron Pills
I have found that peri-colace doesn't always work with me and my iron, either. If it doesn't work I sometimes take extra fish oil or a tablespoon of olive oil. Sometimes adding a little extra salt to your food can help (it causes changes in your fluid balance and can help with constipation), rarely I take milk of magnesia because I don't want to get dependent on it (that might be a little neurotic on my part). There are other options as well. Some folks take epsom salts, there are some folks who take flax seed oil and that seems to help if you take it daily. If it gets really bad you might check with your doc.
I wish you luck! I know it's hard to combat this side effect. Since I use a combination of things it hasn't been a problem for me. I trade off so I'm not always using the same thing, but it really is okay to take the oils every day. I don't know if you can exercise, but that's another good addition that helps a bit. I do "walking in place" videos by Leslie Sansone and it seems to be a good program for me.
Take care!

Anemia and Iron Pills
I have iron deficient anemia due to gastric bypass a couple of years ago. I take Chromagen Forte (prescription iron). I've noticed that since my surgery it's had more of a binding effect than before. Stool softeners didn't seem to help me at all. I've increased by water intake a bit and am eating lots of fiber. I do take Milk of Magnesia, 1tblsp, every other day or every two days. All Bran with applesause mixed in seems to help or fiber intensive muffins. If you have a Trader Joe's near you they have great apple cranberry fiber muffins! I've also started drinking a cup of tea in the evenings, mostly chamomile, that seems to help as well.
Good luck!
