Body Wraps

Has anyone tried a body wrap to try to get down in size? I don't believe they help you lose weight, just size. I'm having a hard time losing weight and I'm thinking that in a 'round' a-bout way I might be getting discouraged by what I see in the mirror. I was thinking that if I used a body wrap to decrease size and improve what I see, that might give me the added incentive/boost to lose weight.

I have not done one, but just looked them up on the net. I am a bit skeptical and it's fairly pricey. From what I was reading, for maximum results, you need to do more than one treatment and than come in for maintainance every 8 weeks.

I also found this at the FDA:
  Quote:
The garments and wraps, with or without lotions and creams, reduce body dimensions by removing fluids. Most medical experts agree that such treatment will cause a loss of inches and perhaps pounds due to profuse perspiration. But the reductions are temporary. The fluid is soon replaced by drinking or eating. But rapid and excessive fluid loss is potentially dangerous because it can bring on severe dehydration and can upset the balance of important electrolytes in the body.

Wraps have no effect on fat deposits and will not dissolve fat, even temporarily. Fat is not broken down by perspiration. It is gotten rid of only when fewer calories are consumed than are needed to meet the body's energy requirements.

This one is a little more recent:
  Quote:
Body wraps are another favorite gimmick of the quacks. They're touted as a means of "burning fat." The wraps are worn around part or all of the body, sometimes preceded by the application of a cream or lotion. Temporary weight loss may occur as the result of sweating and loss of water in the tissues, but when the water content of the tissue returns to normal, the "lost" weight reappears. The wraps do not "burn" or dissolve fat. Furthermore, experts consider them dangerous because they can cause severe dehydration and circulatory problems.

You can go to fda.gov and type in body wraps in the search box. I found alot of stuff about this. After reading, I wouldn't do it. You could also talk with your doctor and get his/her opinion.

thank you for the additional information, I missed those sites. I had been checking out different sites including one that listed complaints on certain companies, surprisingly there were a couple on Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. The body wrap I was looking at stated that theirs did not decrease weight, rather it decreased inches by removing toxins in the body and exfoliating the skin, you'd only keep it on for about an hour. They also recommended drinking lots of water at least before/and after. Plus exercising and eating better, it sounded like a home remedy for looking better without Plastic Surgery....

I was going to speak with my Health Advisor about this next week, already have an appointment for Tuesday.

Body Wraps

Hi doglover,
I am a spa lover and I have done wraps at the spa. They are not exactly the same as the wraps you see in the ads, but you do reduce fluids in your body when you do them. Usually, herbs, aromatics, and/or oils are spread on your body. Then, you are wrapped in plastic, then in warm blankets. So you sweat....a lot! When I've done it the aesthetician has always told me to drink a lot of water afterwards and eat light because otherwise you'll have diarrea. You do feel lighter, BUT it only lasts about a day and doing that over and over is not healthy. Your body naturally expels toxins if you keep well hydrated.Hope that helps.
