I am scared of my follow up appointment

I had a TAH BSO for endometrial cancer (grade 3) and I have my follow up on Thursday 9/28 and I am scared to hear the results and to have my staples removed.

Thanks for listening.

Oh how we all understand the fear. As far as the staples go, it will be a piece of cake. I've had them removed on 2 occasions, and the worst was a very light pinch on just a few of the staples. You will do just fine!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and that you receive the best results possible at that visit. Keep as busy as you can. I know that is easier said than done, but it really does help.

Come back and let us know what you find out.

I don't blame you for being scared. I'm always nervous when I go to the doc. I have to think of something else when they take my blood pressure just so it comes out normal. My mom has always told me "not to borrow trouble" but sometimes it's awfully hard not to. But you can do this. You are strong and you have lots of courage. Make up your mind to have positive thoughts and we'll all send good wishes your way so that you will have us all there in spirit.

Do you have someone who can physically go with you? (having people there in spirit is nice but physical presence of a friend or loved one is even better) And get them to drive too.

Good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes. Here's another for luck.

Hugs!

Just wanted to send hugs and warm fuzzies your way, and to let you know you are most definitely NOT alone! Being scared of the unknown is perfectly normal, but try not to let it drain too much of your energy. You need all the energy you can for your healing process.

Definitely have someone go with you for support, and to act as a second set of ears for you. As for those darn staples, I'm sure you'll feel much better once those buggers are gone. The things we ladies endure!

I'll be praying for the best of results for you, and for your inner peace and strength as you begin this journey.

Many hugs!

Considering all you've been through, the staples will be a minor occurrance. Just look at the ceiling and think about being on a nice, warm beach listening to the gulls and the ocean. By the time you've done that, it will be finished.

Not much happens at a follow up appointment, that I remember. I already knew my final staging when I left the hosp. You should take a list of questions if you have any. I think I was so happy to be well enough to get out and about, that I looked forward to it. Afterward, my husband of 33 years, and I went out for lunch. I remember it was a cold December day, and I had the best minestrone soup at a little Italian cafe. Make it a celebratory day! You've been through the big battle and you are now home with your medals of honor and courage.

I completely understand, have had breast cancer and little worried as haven't gone back for my first visit yet either. Keep the faith and the lord will be there with you all the way. Be positive and keep your head high.

I am scared of my follow up appointment

Hi there. Will you be getting your staging tomorrow? is that your concern? Of course that would be scary. It is a good idea to have someone with you, and/or have your gyn/onc write down everything. My doctor did that, wrote down the staging, all the treatments, even side effects. Without that paper, I would have been lost. Once we hear 'cancer' it's very hard to hear and remember anything after that.

Good luck tomorrow. Please let us know what happens.

Hugs and comfort,
Janie

I am scared of my follow up appointment

Once we have received a cancer diagnosis, we tend to get nervous when we see our doctor. Make sure you write down your questions before you go.

Let us know how your appointment goes.

Yes, I agree, follow-up appointments can get you tied up in emotional knots. The good news is that they are over before you know it! The sisters have already given you some great advice on your visit; I strongly agree with bringing a friend. Also. if your surgical site is still a little tender, you might want to consider taking any pain medication that you may still have. In general, getting the staples out doesn't hurt at all, but everyones threshold for tolerating a procedure is different.

What did you mean in your post about getting "the results"? What information are you expecting?

I hope your appointment is a non-event and you continue to heal!

Good luck and keep us posted,

Beachball

Hey McCann - I'm going in for my 2-year checkup soon and have been nervous about it for about a week. It gets better/easier but what you're feeling is so normal. Expect the best. Big s!!!
