Talk to Dr. today...pathology report is back.

Hi Sisters,

I'm not sure how I feel right now. Here is what my doc said. My pathology report did show actual cancer...but only 10%, and it was still contained inside the uterus..the rest of the uterus was still only precancer.

She said my surgery was my cure and thank God we went ahead and did the surgery. I need no further treatent. But I will still for a long time have in the back of my head this little worry I could still have cancer somewhere else down there.

Anyone else who is post op a long time had this and still doing good with no signs of cancer??

I'm sure it's normal to be some worried, but I trust my doc and I am right now SOOO thankful to God that it was ALL contained inside the uterus and was told my surgery was my cure. Sometimes we don't get such good news and find it spread and need chemo/radiation..so I am very fortunate in that.

I guess I am one lucky girl, aren't I ??????? Good thing I asked for that endo-biopsy and had this surgery...God was directing me here. Now I can concentrate on recovering and knowing I am cancer free now......but as I said..I have this very little worry still.....maybe those with this experience can ease my mind here.

Hi SisterAngel, I am so glad that this turned out positive for you. You are a lucky girl. I understand exactly what your saying Cancer is a scary word. Just knowing that its there is frightening.Whenever we hear it we think the absolute worst. My dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma a couple years back. Although he has had only a couple treatments and is in 100% remission I know how scary it was for us in the beginning. God lead you through this journey and you listened to him. I know this because if I hadn't had the Hysterectomy my Dr said I would be dead because of the infection. I know that God and my Dr saved my life. I hope that was some help? Once again I am so glad this turned out positive for you. Take care and if you would like to chat I am here. Love, Melanie

I really understand the mixed feelings. I went into my surgery expecting only a D&C and right ovary removed, but they found something suspicious during the D&C and took everything. It was a real shock as all the testing came back negative. I even had the doc I went to for the second opinion agreed that the ovary had to be removed because of a large mass, but looked at me and said I was lucky because I didn't have to worry about cancer in any way. My own doc had been very thorough about explaining the possibility to me, but said that the chances of having to do any more than the remove the one ovary were slim.

So I woke up from surgery TAH/BSO for suspicious endometrial cells and a week later got the call confirming that it was cancer, but saying the were certain they had it all.

I have no additional treatment, except a follow-up visit every three months for 2 years for a pelvic exam.

I know I should be grateful and am much of the time, but being only a month out, I can say I have these periods where I get really depressed and teary about the whole thing.

Hi Sisters,

((Puggie)) Thanks for your reassuring words. You're right...God led me this and got me through it. Some aren't so lucky to have what I have and it gotten so early. I am TRULY blessed. My prayers were all answered.

((capsyd)) Thank you too. I'm sorry they found cancer cells in you. How much did they find? My doc said only a 10% area was cancer and the rest was precancer cells. I know you get still scared..I think we all do when dealing with cancer, but you know what? We ARE survivors....we acted quickly and it was gotten early. We both are now cancer free with our surgery..that was our cure. We ARE truly blessed by God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish for you the best. We will be ok and nothing more will ever show up.

thanks girls
Hugs

SisterAngel,
I am sorry they found cancer. Yours seems to have been caught very early which is great. Many times the hyster is all that is needed. I am sure that some of our uterine cancer members will be along soon to tell you their stories.

Angel,

I'm very happy for you that surgery was all you needed! I think I can understand your mixed feelings, though. Here you know you should be on top of the world because the cancer was resolved via the surgery, but it was still cancer and it was in your body and you can't just forget it was there because now it's gone. You feel what you need to feel, but don't let that stinking bit of cancer rule your life. Don't give it the power to make it always be in your thoughts. You are a cancer survivor! You beat it, you won!! Embrace that and live your life with no fears. Stay on top of your follow-ups and continue to be proactive about your health but don't let that little bit of cancer (whose butt you kicked!) make you obsessive. Now go do something to celebrate your cancer free life.

Dear Sister,

You are most likely staged at a grade1 stage 1b. Your grade 1 means that less than 5% of the cells looked abnormal/cancerous in that small area of cancer that was discovered via your pathology report. This also means that the cells were not very aggressive. I believe the 10% means that only a small area infiltrated your myometrium (uterine wall). 1-50% infiltration is considered a stage1b. And, you are on the low end of that spectrum. From a statisical view your odds of non-recurrence are up at the approx. 98% range. ie... waaaaay good. The odds are so low for non-recurrence ....that the risks/side effects of treatment (radiation or chemo) would not be beneficial. Hence, surgery is usually considered the cure.

You will still have check-ups...paps and physical exams every three to four months for the first two years. Every 6 months for the next two or three years and back to once a year.

Your a fortunate woman...

Hugs, Diane

SisterAngel... very similar story here about finding it early and no need to have further treatment. You can't help but worry about the future. It just happens! BUT, you can continue to give yourself good thoughts and reminders that at least for now they got it all. Keep telling yourself this and you will believe it ...and try to go about your business from there!

Every ache and pain I get throws me into a real tizzy and i try to keep telling myself those good thoughts. Most of the time it works! (As I sit here I am actually waiting for radiology to call me back. Apparently there is an abnormality on my mammogram. Could be nothing, but, we all know the worries and what happens to our thinking when we have to wait for results! I have had enough of this too!)

The best to you all!

I fully understand. I found out I have endometrial cancer...and will be having everything removed. I am so anxious to get rid of it. I'm being told that it is likely the surgery will be my "cure", but there is no way of knowing until the surgery is done. You are indeed blessed that it is done! I know I will continue to have pangs of worry after surgery even if it is all I need. Just human nature to be concerned, just don't let that concern eat away at you. Remember we are strong women! Lots of big hugs for you!!!!
